    The disciplinary card-flipping system has a negative impact on the students- especially the younger students. Students must flip cards in front of their peers for any behavior the teacher does not like (ex., talking during quiet time etc) and it often has a humiliating effect on students. Many kids cannot concentrate on their work because they are "worried" about flipping a card. The school also states there is a "no bullying" policy but there is a lot of bullying at this school that seems to be tolerated instead of stopped.

    Mount Vernon is an exemplary school. The staff is incredibly dedicated and the community is so supportive.
