Awesome School! I'm part of the instructional team at Janus (16 years). Janus helps students with learning differences such as; High Functioning Autism, Dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning diagnoses. It has small class sizes, around 4-5 students per class. Homework is assigned as needed. Because the student body struggles with learning, the students use much of their mental and emotional energy throughout the day for academic, emotional, and social learning. Many students are "spent" and need a reprieve from homework. Many parents report a positive change in their student. Most students report that they either like or love Janus compared to their former school. The Janus School IS NOT set up to work with students with a Emotional or Behavioral struggles as their primary need. Prospective students are invited to try a 3 day visit. After the visit Janus will determine if the student will be a good fit. The Janus School is typically a transitional school. They help students find strategies that work for them so the student can transition back to a home school district. This is based on several factors: the severity of the learning difference and when a student comes to Janus. It is rare for students to stay all 12 years at Janus. Typically a student that comes during elementary will transition by middle school. A student that comes by 8-9th grade will probably graduate with Janus. Most students will stay 4-5 years. Some 1-2 years and others will be at Janus 6 years or longer. There is scholarship money available to those that qualify and how early they apply. Overall the Janus School is a real Gem! The overall success stories of Janus are numerous. I grew up in the 1970's-80's and later in life discovered I have Dyslexia, ADD, with mild anxiety and depression. I WISH The Janus School had existed when I was in school!

I cannot say enough good things about this school. After trying 3 private and 2 public schools with experiences ranging from disappointing to horrifying and traumatizing, our son has found a place where he is understood and has been able to truly grow. These teachers truly take the time to understand children with learning differences, and as a result, they are able to bring out the best in them. My son couldn't grow and change positively in a school environment until he was surrounded by people who gave him the tools- and the opportunity- to do so. Now, he loves school, loves his teachers, and has matured and grown as a person. Also, we don't get constant emails and calls from teachers about things we don't have any control over- they teach kids to handle problems on their own, as they happen. The days of disciplining at home for classroom offenses he doesn't even remember are over! This school has changed all of our lives; I can't recommend it highly enough.

My son goes here. It is a wonderful school. Staff is focused on and dedicated to helping students succeed. It is safe and no bullying allowed. My son has blossomed here.

So far, so amazing. Our Son no longer suffers from school related anxiety. He is no longer overwhelmed as he is now being taught using methods that suit his learning style. He is allowed to master a subject before moving to the next. He actually remembers what he has learned. Go figure!!

Overall an okay school. My child hit the "glass ceiling" and needed a true high school. Although we seen great things for other students our child was held back in her social and educational development. Just please be aware of some of the other options that are out there for your child.

Please be careful when you inquire or send a child to Janus. They are only equipped to deal with children who have dyslexia, not children with autism spectrum disorders. Please inquire about about the teacher's certifications for dealing with autism.
