York High School’s poor administration stifles independent thinking and creates a toxic environment. The leadership is not good, enforcing rigid rules and overwhelming workloads that emphasize “rigor” over students’ personal time or mental state. Concerns are ignored, and the culture is divided, with older teachers excluding new hires. This inconsistent environment leaves students struggling to navigate policies instead of fostering critical thinking or genuine growth. Reform is urgently needed.

Dwindling enrollment has led to cuts in academic programs such as French, band, Latin and other humanities electives. Over twelve faculty and staff left at the end of the last school year, which is never a good sign. Some amazing teachers, but an administration that seems in over their heads. Apparently was a very good school a few years ago.

York is the premier school to attend if you have an interest in learning and a commitment to education. From the Head of School to the faculty to school employees, this is a community where everyone is supported and valued for who they are. As a parent of a daughter at York School, I am beyond grateful for the caring environment where my daughter enjoys coming to school and participating fully in her high school experience. York is a school where students thrive in the rich academics as well as in their sport, the music and theater programs, student government, clubs, and whatever they choose to devote themselves to.

For those parents and students who are willing to make a commitment to their child s education, then York School is the place to be .. The school is academically challenging, the teachers are fabulous, and the support staff is there to assist with any issues. I have two children one that has already graduated and gone on to college and one that will be graduating in 2014. While both children had a different experience at York, they will walk away with fond memories of the friend they made, the classes that shaped them, the plays they participated in, the JSA debates, the sleepless nights studying but most importantly the knowledge that was imparted to them by everyone at York. The teacher s encourage the students to be passionate about learning. All students are treated equally and with respect by the staff and in turn the students do that with each other. I entrusted my children to York and with their guidance and education, they gave me two beautiful, bright, intelligent, independent young women. Thank you York.

Beyond the academics and broad exposure to the arts and athletics, the two things I most appreciate about York is how it cultivates tolerance and respect for all members of the school community, and how it recognizes and celebrates the unique package of strengths and characteristics that each student brings.

My son is having an excellent experience. Teachers know him, recognize his strengths, and help him with his weaknesses. He has a diverse group of friends and the environment encourages him to be his best--as a person and student. He loves sports and has found the athletics very satisfying--lots of time on the field and positive, encouraging coaches. Students are engaged in all facets of their learning and learn to build relationships with teachers--a skill that will serve them well in college and beyond.

It is a joy to work for this school. Why? Because of the students. They are committed, engaged, funny, independent, creative, and very much their own people. The robust scholarship program allows for meaningful socio-economic diversity. Teachers are there to engage in thoughtful conversations with students. They are devoted to professional excellence. Our parents are our partners, a significant tribute to the strength of community. At York, education isn't just about getting into some brand name college; it's about the joy of learning and engagement with life!
