Dr. Harvey and the school administration show no accountability. Students are free to disrupt and be verbally abusive and disrespectful to teachers with no fear of repercussions because the administration doesn’t care. The administration only cares about what the outside world perceives, but parents who are actually involved with their kids know the real story of what really is going on at the school. They are doing a lot of these kids a disservice by not disciplining when it is warranted. These kids have little chance for success in the real world once they leave the Sun Valley bubble created by the administration. But I doubt the administration cares. Prove me wrong.

My daughter attends this school and was diagnosed with a learning disability. The counselor and VP were very proactive in modifying her curriculum and offering help with a 504 plan. She's adapted well and has a great support team.

My student told me that some classrooms are out of control and noisey when she was trying to learn. The teachers didn't do anything but say to tune it out which I think is very unfair. There is bullying and not much done about it. The school is very dirty and old. Hopefully there will be a new one built very soon. My student didn't want to use the bathroom at school. There is smoking in the bathroom. There was some good experiences but a lot of bad as well.

Our daughter was redistricted to Sun Valley this school year. Initially, we were reluctant as we were happy with the school she had been attending. Much to our surprise, the transition was not only smooth, it has been very positive. Our daughter is thriving both academically and socially. From administration to teachers, she has been welcomed. Her classes have been challenging and she has thrived. We could not be more thrilled. I encourage all prospective students / parents to talk with current students / parents. You will be astonished at the overwhelming sense of community and pride - which is just a bonus on top of the quality education in your child's future at Sun Valley. Welcome to Sun Valley Spartans!!

My daughter went here briefly, but loved it. She was in advanced classes and felt she was challenged. Kids were nice, too.

Great educators, it is also parents responsibility to be present at school to make the changes they believe is necessary. My niece has been doing really well at Sun Valley. Teachers are very dedicated and supportive!!

While there are some good educators here, my daughter's two years so far has been completely hit and miss. This year, she enrolled in Spanish, but is switching classes because the school can't fill the position (they have a French teacher filling the spot). Her history teacher last year had students build a castle--I remember doing that same project in 5th grade. She always complains about out-of-control classrooms and teachers who can't (or won't) do anything about it. I have a student who loves to learn and loves school, but I can see that drive and spark diminishing every day she comes home. This isn't just SVHS's fault. North Carolina is killing curiosity and love of learning in our schools all the way from K-12. Should you stay away from SVHS? Maybe. But the best advice is to leave NC.

This school is doing a great job given all the budget cuts they've endured these past few years. Hats off to the leadership and teachers of this school for finding ways to make up the some of the loss of funding.

Sun Valley High School seems to be a happy experience for my daughter who is in 11th grade now. She is in honors courses and has been getting good grades A's and B's. The teachers seem very involved and intelligent. The school adminstrators are very knowledgeable and helpful with the course selections. I have not heard anything about the kids being bullies, starting fights or taking drugs. The kids that attend Sun Valley High seem to be very nice friendly students concerned about their future success. That is what makes it a happy day to be there.
