My daughter was in the dual language program and we had a lot of ups and downs due to the transitional nature of the program and teacher shortages. Once I switched her into a general education classroom it was awesome. Her teacher was amazing and so supportive of her. Concepts in all subjects were taught well and clearly. Really great on math and science, too. We ended up getting a 504 and the principal, social worker, and teachers were incredible through this process.

I would not suggest this school, they don't get parents involved, they "don't see" bullying, they don't help students with anything, they don't let kids socialize and the recess is very short

If you are new to this district beware. Other districts in and out of the surrounding area are much more inclusive than Mokena. I have always thought of education as a partnership between school and home, but in this district parents are treated as an impediment to their child's growth and development. This is evidenced in the lack of parental involvement in the schools which is encouraged by the culture in this district. Bullying is not addressed. In fact, issues are ignored in order to project the right image of good behavior and values. There is no accountability and issues should never be ignored, especially when the health and well-being of children are at stake. Kids fall through the cracks here. Ignoring issues and failing to take concerns seriously is a huge problem here. This has not been my experience in other districts, and I am deeply disappointed in Mokena Intermediate School.
