While this school aims to do well it doesn't; by a long shot actually. My child recently switched schools & while in the new school was asked what was their most embarrassing moment was & I kid you not, my child mentioned attending this school. Schools are meant to service the community. I was always under the impression the community served the school or owner for that matter. The staff & administration is very unorganized. Anyone can slap a fancy name on a school, rent a couple classrooms hire half a staff & call themselves a "school". The teachers cared but only about as much as their paychecks. I can only imagine how well they were paid . All my kids did all day was math & came home w basic HW. I would NOT recommend this school to anyone. No science, gym, music, Spanish etc. Very basic.

I enjoy working at Alston's, and I really don't care that the owner drives a Benz. Most of the parents that I see come to the school drive Cadillac's and expensive cars, even though they qualify for free and reduced lunch. Is it possible that the owner had a Benz before having the school?

This school don't got no library, no computers, and they lunches are pitiful. My kids tell me they had a part of a hot dog bun for breakfast. They had quarter of a sandwich for a lunch one day. It ain't no money going to the class rooms but the teachers is good. I am pulling my kids from this fake school next year.

This school is a joke. There is no administration. All of the other positive reviews are written by people who either have money in the school or are related to the family that runs it. There is no spanish offered here(like they talk about on this website), there are unlicensed teachers in classrooms alone, there is absolutely no technology(and they are supposed to be a global school with global thinkers), there is no music/art teacher. The lunches are totally unacceptable (bologna sandwhiches, and half a piece of fruit) and the other morning my child told me that they mild was old and came out of the carton in chunks. Meanwhile the owner drives a Benz and is hardly if ever in the building. No wonder the school lacks supplies and descent meals. I would never recommend anyone send their child to this school. Its amazing that it is still open. I will be contacting DPI to let them know about the things that are going on here and will be pulling my child next year because there is nothing great about this school.

My daughters GPA & Iowa tests scores have improved drastically. The Teaching staff is very informed and caring.

I commend the staff of APA for their committment to educating children in the central city. Not all teachers have the capacity to educate minority children and APA is not afraid to get rid of teachers who do more harm than good in the classroom. I have a students at APA who are doing very well academically, socially and emotionally. Even though there has been a change in teachers, not all change is bad. Bad teachers should not be allowed to perpetrate emotional damage on our children by telling them they are "bad" or calling them "monkeys". Congratualtions APA for getting rid of harmful teachers. See you in the 2013-14 school year.

they have un-certified people acting as teachers in classrooms that are not qualified to be a teacher. Not a supportive environment and the claims of a positive education are false. They are not promoting honesty in their so called Christian school.

My nephew attends Alstons Prepatory Academy. My sister enrolled him after thorough research, and was pleased to learn about the high reading/academic scores. When my sister went into the school, she was pleased to meet such personable teachers, and the administrative team that were so willing to help her, she's very pleased at the standard of excellence and will be enrolling her other children into the school when they're old enough to attend. "I'm very glad he's getting a great education from such nice, caring teachers."

I have 3 children that have been attending Alston's Preparatory Academy since its conception and it by far has been the best decision I have ever made! The teachers are very involved in the academic and social excellence of my children and I have an open door policy to talk to them any time, which is very important. The teachers are always willing to give me an update on my children's progression. The technology set up by Alston's also affords me the opportunity to always have access to my children's grades which is excellent. The staff and I have formed a partnership so that together we can ensure that my children reach their highest potential academically, socially and spiritually. The administration of Alstons is always wililng and often go above and beyond to make sure that my children are in a safe environment to learn. My youngest child learned how to read at 3 and my sons make the honor roll at least 3 out of 4 times on average during each school year! The staff is very friendly and I they continue to do an awesome job to inform me of important events and changes with the facility. I have seen continued grown each year and I highly recommend Alston's to any parent!!!

This school is very unorganized! They have only one Lady Sherryl who answers the Phone. She is helpful but you never get any phone calls from the school and they lost my child on the bus.
