The administration of the school is terrible. They do not value the hard work of teachers. If you are a new teacher, think 100 times before you teach at Van E. Blanton. Go to another school because in this one you will work extremely hard and at the end of the year, they are going to tell you good bye without telling you thank you for your hard work. On top of that when another school that you apply requests the recommendation of your previous principal, the principal of the school is going to make very negative comments about you. It does not matter how hard you work at Van E. Blanton because the principal does not like hard working teachers. She will make fun of you at the end. Run, run, run!

The school has no teachers. The principal terminated more than 5 teachers after the school was done with testing. If they are not able to hire enough substitute teachers to cover every classroom, the children are placed into different classrooms that are already overcrowded. During dismissal I am not able to find my child sometimes and the school staff never knows in which classroom my child is placed. This is not a school because a school without teachers is not a real school.

2014 was my first year experience with Van E. Blanton Elementary. This school has a caring environment of administrative and teaching staff. They have proven to go the extra mile to ensure my child, with developmental delays, had a progressive learning experience. I like the fact, when I had a concern it was addressed in a timely manner for resolution. The school could improve with an increase of additional teaching staff because of the increasing demands for students academic learning and students with special needs. Overall, this is a good elementary school with the potential of becoming a great school with additional resources provided.

Blanton El. is by far a very difficult school to teach at...I know because I did my time as a teacher there from 1985 to 2001. Felt like I was fighting an up hill battle everyday...with students, parents and administration. Few teachers actually took pride in teaching and it reflected on their students progress. Unfortunately those students were few and in between given the lack of parental involvement and administrative guidance.
