From the moment you walk in you are welcomed with smile and a greeting. Staff is always ready to lend a hand, give high fives, encourage and love on each student that walks through the doors. I have three children and my last child is in 3rd grade now, best teachers, amazing experiences, challenged, loved on. Best part seeing my succeed because the teachers never give up!!! Love this school! In it together!!!

I have two kids at Slaughter now and this is our 4th year attending. I have to admit that I was skeptical at first, simply because I thought the exterior of the school could use some improvements, but my kids really love it here and I am so ashamed of myself for judging a book by its cover. The teachers and staff have fostered a love of learning in my kids- so much so, that my children complain about school vacation and jump up in the morning so excited to go to school. Both of my children are excelling academically and socially and are far beyond their cousins and friends from other states whenever we go back for visits. I am so grateful that my children are exposed to diversity at school- I feel it makes them more accepting, culturally aware, and just better human beings because of it. The PTO is heavily involved in hosting events that kids and families can look forward to attending. We have had an extremely positive experience at Slaughter and I can’t thank the entire staff enough for the elementary education my kiddos are receiving here. If there was anything I could change, I would wish for a playground upgrade- however the playground behind the school does not even belong to the school, it is run by Mckinney parks & rec so truly if anyone has issue with the playground/park they need to take it up with Parks and Rec because the school can’t do anything about it. All in all, we love Slaughter!

I wouldn't trade my son's years at Slaughter for anything! I'm so grateful for all of the love and support I received as a parent and my son received from kindergarten through 5th grade.

We have been at E. Slaughter Elementary for a few years now and absolutely love it! They have some of the most caring teachers, who work hard teaching and caring for the students. Many have been Mckinney ISD’s “Teacher of the Year” and continue to work hard to make learning fun while educational. My child’s fourth grade math teacher rearranged her classroom to create a math camping scene. Each station had different math problems to solve in a fun interactive process with their peers. It was so cute and the kids loved it. I volunteer at the school and see the overflowing love these teachers have for their students. This school is a gem in McKinney ISD. It is diverse and multicultural. There are children from all walks of life learning and playing in a healthy and happy environment. I love that my children get to attend a school like Slaughter. They have a pep rally almost every Friday, where they celebrate one student from each class who has demonstrated the “wolf pack way”. Each grade has a fun cheer and all the students celebrate that weeks “Alpha Wolves”. It is beautiful to see. I do think the school could use some renovations and a fresh coat of paint. However, my daughter brought a friend with her to bingo night last week, and her friend thought the school was so colorful and fun. She said it was nothing like her “boring beige” school. I guess from a kids perspective the multicolored walls are pretty fun. Speaking from experience, their dyslexia and speech programs are phenomenal! Their PE, art and music programs are very fun and interactive. There are an abundance of teachers and faculty members whom love these students like their own and give everything to aid in their success. Earl Slaughter Elementary has been a blessing to our family and I am grateful my kids get to go here!

In trying to be fair, I'll not mention my child's experience, but TRY to be objective. This school would be great if it were in a rural town with very low funding, lack of good volunteers and difficulty getting access to good teachers etc.... However, the opposite is true, so there is no reason why this school hasn't been renovated; that would do wonders for the kids psyche. The school doesn't fit into the modernization McKinney currently offers. While teachers are not perfect, having several new teachers can boost an entire staff moral; this school needs it. I won't comment on the lunch menu...wow! Let's just saw health isn't a priority.Since our neighborhood is assigned to this school and transferring seems impossible, having our child there is disheartening. The school doesn't appear bright and fun, instead it looks dreary and depressing. I know they can do better and they should, it's 2017, kids need all hands and heads on deck.

I have been at Slaughter for 6 years, we love it. I 4 more years there before I will move because I don't want my kids to go to any other school in the district. It is very diverse and the teachers love the kids as if they were their own.

I love Slaughter! The teachers and staff are amazing! They truly care about the kids. The teachers are genuinely friends and I love that! They support and love one another! It's like a family! This is my daughters second year here and she loves her school! One thing I would change is getting a canopy and fence around the playground. ;)

I can't stand this school and I am beyond glad that after this school year I won't have to deal with anyone there. Aside from a very few teachers there that care about the kids and helping them excel the staff is terrible. I never have felt welcome when I've had to go into the school and my kids have never liked it. McKinney ISD really needs to reevaluate the ENTIRE staff....or just close the school. I don't feel that my kids have gotten even a decent education there. I desperately want to go back to Plano schools!

Great school! Texas schools seem to be a bit ahead of where we moved from, but the teacher we had worked with my daughter individually to get her as caught up as possible. We have been attending for about 5 months and I couldn't be happier.

My daughter is New to Slaughter E. We come from plano, and when I say a BIG difference. From the time we walked in the building we didn't fill loved there. The staff there seem to have a attitude from the time we step through the door. The Nurse was very rude it seem like it was going to kill her to fax a paper off. There was no love what so ever. When we left they didn't say thanks you, happy your coming to our School none of tht. They seem very lazy and unhappy with there Job. It got so bad tht I had to call them the next day to let them know how I felt. I'm looking to tranfer my daughter to another school. If I could gather plano staff and bring them to Slaughter E. To show them how to treat people better I would. They need to work on there staff there because they seem miserable.

My children have attended this school for 6 years. In that time, I have watched it decline from a school that cares to a school that does little more than keep students quite and busy with worksheets. There are a few exceptional teachers, but as a whole from the principal down, the school is substandard. I have tried to participate actively as a parent but the general attitude from the administration and many of the teachers is to step back and let them do their job. Unless you agree with everything they do, parents are looked at as the "enemy". If your child needs any extra support, they are treated like "inconveniences". Any success this school has is solely attributable to the individual intelligence and hard work of their students since the school as a whole does very little to foster an environment of learning and discovery. To even call it a school is generous. I would more attribute it to a glorified detention facility that happens to have a library and desks. I am very familiar with other McKinney ISD schools, and this one really is BAD. If you can avoid sending your child there, do it! The good teachers started leaving years ago, and it is only going to get worse.

This will my daughter first year attending school she will be going to Slaughter, as a parents i'm concerned with quailty and levels of skills the teachers at any school in which my child be attending possess. There are alot of schools whose teacher aren't to concern about taking the time to teach the children or work with those that may have some diffcuilties they rather just pass them through anyway instead of having the patience to find a happy medium in getting that child to understand. My concern is that i read the reviews on Slaughter and i see there are mix emotions between parents on the teachers and staff and wha there teaching. Is slaughter a good school to send my daughter for her first year attending school where she going to be pushed to limits to learn and taught to above the state required teaching just for a dumb test that hinder the true nature of teaching by not allowing the teacher to teach to the best of their knowlegde and abilities. Is slaughter the school for my daughter?

I have read these reviews and I am floored at some of the negative comments. I have 3 kids at this school and have for 3 years. I am a very active parent at the school and spend a great deal of time there thus able to make many observations regarding the school. I have loved the teachers and staff. The school motto is "In it together" and I really feel as though they all strive to run the school by that motto. Their is a great sense of community between the parents, staff, teachers and kids! Recently our family had to move to a new house and we chose to stay in the Slaughter area vs another area in McKinney because the school is that good! You are going to have drama and personality conflicts between parents and staff at any school. Simply put Slaughter ROCKS and if you have not had that experience then ask yourself was it because you were the problem as a parent, not the school!
