I have two kids who currently attend the Living Ethics School. Before we found this school, we were at a public school in a great school district. Although my kids didn’t encounter academic or behavioral difficulties there, I saw how learning was becoming a task for them. It became all about the homework and grades/scores. I wanted to see their curiosity lead to a learning experience that had more purpose. When I found the Living Ethics School, I was drawn to the nature and the small community-feel of the school. They have a 30min. snack recess and an hour lunch recess, where they get to run around, climb trees, look for bugs, and make forts. Coming from a school where they didn’t allow kids to run on the blacktop, my kids were elated! Once they started their new school, they didn’t want to miss a day. During long breaks, they would tell me that they missed the trees at school. I love the fact that they have something interesting to tell me at the end of the day. Another great aspect of this school is the mediations that are facilitated by the teachers when conflicts arise between kids. My kids have become better at explaining their feelings in words because they are given the chance to do so. They have improved in expressing themselves in general, as there are many opportunities, including presentation nights held multiple times throughout the year, and the times they are allowed to draw and paint while listening to stories. It is very apparent that my kids have become livelier since we moved to this school, that even their grandparents tell me how they’ve changed. I recommend this school to parents who see the importance in learning through nature, fostering children’s curiosity, and fostering social and emotional development.

This is the 6th year my family has been at RMCLE. I sought out this school in hopes of finding a community of people to facilitate my girls’ education that shar d my passion and values — fostering a love of learning in a compassionate, holistic, natural environment that honors the child. Learning here is multi-dimensional, incorporating nature, music, art, empathy, and academics beautifully into a carefully crafted curriculum. My youngest started in PreK where her natural abilities were encouraged and nurtured. She is now a high spirited, outgoing, bright, and confident 9 year old who loves climbing trees, going barefoot, and spontaneously creating intricate works of art in many forms. She also loves science and math, and loves learning about historical figures and events as taught in Ms. Vicki’s Teaching Stories! Although she struggles with reading, the teachers have taken special attention to her and have been working with her to where she enjoys the process of learning. I have seen a remarkable improvement and I love seeing the light go on in her eyes! She loves going to school and is disappointed if she has to miss classes.The wisdom, critical thinking, and empathy for others that I’ve seen in my child is beyond what you would expect for a 9 year old, and I attribute this directly to the way RMCLE teaches and models interpersonal skills and conflict resolution. Listening in a meaningful and validating way to reach a harmonious conclusion is at the heart of this school.My oldest child also attended RMCLE for 4 years. She looks back on her time at RMCLE with very fond memories. She struggled with disgraphia, so encouraging writing with her was especially challenging. The teachers were able to work with her individual needs so that she is now writing by hand without issue, but she was also able to use her computer for typing in the meantime so that her love of writing wasn’t hindered by her lack of ability to physically write by hand. She had very little issue transitioning to a more traditional type classroom — although she really misses Ms. Vicki’s Teaching Stories! I believe the compassionate and engaging environment at RMCLE where she learned to love learning has set her up for success not only in her future academic endeavors, but for her future as a whole individual who will have a positive lasting impact on our world.

This school has been such a disappointment. At first glance it seems wonderful, but then you soon learn that the children aren't being taught anything of substance. All of the grades are intertwined and the pre-K class is always integrated with the Kinder class which makes it difficult for any of the kids to learn anything specific to their age level. The kids are all intellectually behind because the teachers are more focused on "nurturing" them and telling stories than actually teaching important subjects such as reading and math. It is insane that this place is allowed to call itself a school since it doesn't encourage any real learning. Playing outside and doing art is good for children, but it should not be the main focus of a school.

Honestly, I started questioning about a third of the way through the school year whether or not it was a responsible choice to keep my child there. Vicki, the owner of the school, really understands what children need--unfortunately, she's probably not the one who will be teaching your children. It seems like she hires out of fear that she can't fill a teaching position fast enough (the turnover rate is ridiculous), so quality of education gets put on the back burner. One of the kindergarten teachers was having breakdowns in class every other day, and it was really off putting to hear the children talk about it. The school puts a big emphasis on how they talk to the children with respect, but she missed the memo. And at least two other teachers were constantly glued to their phones.The kids spend most of their day outside, which is lovely, but you can take your children outside. There is no reason why you should pay over $700 a month for your kids to play outside with loose supervision. Just homeschool, and celebrate the Waldorf festivals at home. I feel like a lot of other parents had similar experiences because multiple children were pulled out throughout the year. Vicki really sold this school to us, I just wish she had been able to find teachers that followed her values.

Dirty school with no structure. Children are encouraged to do as they please. My child comes home wet, injured, and dirty on a weekly basis. My three year-old child has been left unattended because "he simply did not want to go outside" with the other children and all the teachers. This is unacceptable behavior.

My son has attended Robert Muller School for 4 years, since he was three. He is now in the first grade. He loves the school, we love the school. The campus is beautiful and he spends hours each day outside, playing, building, climbing, gardening, running - the joy of the children is evident when you see their eyes shine at the end of the day. Daily lessons are taught in ways that are meaningful and engaging. Handwork (knitting, crocheting, sewing) is taught, as well as weekly cooking classes. Students work cooperatively on projects of their own design. Each moves at their own pace - there is no rush to master specific skills in order to pass a test or move to the next grade level. There are second generation students whose children go to the school now, and former students often attend the many school festivals and celebrations throughout the year, which speaks to the family like community of the school. Vicki is outstanding as are the other teachers, they always have time to discuss any thoughts, ideas, or concerns I might have, and the school is small enough so that every student is known by name to almost everyone there.

My children are able to learn without stress or fear. Their joy in that learning is why I chose this school for them. They are eager to go to school every day and are sad when vacation time rolls around. Thank you, Vicki!

Our children have been very happy at this school. The teachers have been fantastic. The low teacher to student ratio allows the teachers to give ample attention to each child. They truly treat the child as a holistic individual. I like the heavy parent involvement and the allowance for easy collaboration between the teachers and families. I am especially grateful that the children are allowed to have outside playtime. I feel this outdoor time is very important to burning excess energy and enhances their learning when recess is over and it is time to return to the classroom. The outdoor garden is a treasure that allows children the opportunity to plant and harvest. We are ever so grateful to have this school to send our children to and have found the overall school environment to be nurturing and child-centered.

My kindergarden daughter loves going to school every morning. Her teachers are creative and kind and they spend quality time in nature with the children. The other parents are involved as well and we smell fresh baking bread in the mornings.

This school was a real dissapointment... Agree with previous review staff are undertrained, there is no direction and I have never seen my child so unhappy. In one class the teachers child is a student so that student is paid far more attention. This school was a real let down as during our initial visit we were many promises undelivered hence we pulled our child out of the school after 8 days as we could not handle seeing how distressed he was coming home after being at this school. He is now enrolled elsewhere and we have a much happier, more confident child. Be warned this school do not deliver ALL that they say they do, very unstructured and children are basically left to their own devices 80 per cent of the day. This school also charge exuberant fees and deliver very little for that cost . $$ very important to the principle of this school. Do not recommend !

All of the teachers have, at minimum, a Masters Degree and one has a Doctorate.

We love our school. Nature is part of every school day. Kids experience close to 2 hrs of outside time and we usually stay and play outside after school is done, so it is easily 3 hrs on some days for our family. There are no desks and no detention time. Conflict resolution, compassion and non violent communication is being practiced. Teachers are warm and caring, always ready to share about the day and my kiddos. I am forever grateful for this place.

This is such a fantastic school if you are looking for alternative education for your kids. Teachers are well trained, caring and most important they treat each kid with love respect as and individual. Love the fact that they have the freedom to play, have fun, get dirty and enjoy childhood.Couldn't think of a best school to have my daughter.

An incredibly nurturing invironment for young children that nurtures individuality, self-initiative, and creativity in children - a key in developing full potential and even genius capability later in life. The founder, Vicki Johnston, is the most heart-centered person I know and her Heart Wings curriculum is right on track.

This school has so much potential but ultimately has under-trained teachers, poor direction, is often dirty and parent communication is terrible.

When I drop-off my children in the morning, I feel they are more loved and taken care off than home and grandma s house. Loving angels are running this school. Not comparable with any other school we know.
