Hickory Flat Elementary School has been a terrible experience for my children. Children are constantly threatened/given with "silent lunch" for unjustified reasonings (ie. standing up at their desk to grab paper out of their backpack or forgetting their lunch tags at home). I have watched educators scream at children in the lunch room for being what they thought was "too loud", but in my opinion was normal lunch noise. More specifically, cases of sexual harrassment from students are swept under the rug by the school and board with no repercussions having both the victim and parents feeling helpless. The bus system is a joke and absolutely chaotic. Drop off times change daily and its unsettling. Unruly kids are able to continue to misbehave without any consequences on the bus even after being reported multiple times. For the rating, I truly had my hopes high for this school, but it has been a rough year. I do not recommend your child attending this school.

This school needs a new principal that cares. It is one of the worst elementary schools in the county. All they care about are ways to get money out of parents. Your child will definitely get left behind academically. They hire some of the worst teachers. Here one term then gone the next. They constantly have substitutes. Any issues academically forget about going to the principal she is just going to run her mouth with no change happening. She just likes to here herself talk. Any issues you have with her she is going to pull your child out of class and make them feel like it's all their fault why they're struggling instead of getting them the resources they need. It's really sad they allow this type of person to run this school.

I’m very disappointed with this school and the quality of teachers. We pulled our child out in the middle of the school year to send them to private school where he thrived. This school will leave your child below the state and national academic standards.

I did some research before enrolling my child at HFCE and I must say I'm not sure I made the right decision. My issue isn't so much with the staff and teachers, it's the front office personnel who are my concern. They aren't the warmest ladies, and honestly, they seem quite miserable being there. I never feel comfortable when an issue arises and I have to go to the front office. As a parent, you want to make sure that when you drop your child off in the morning they will be surrounded by staff who will not only protect them but display kindness and compassion. If they are rude to the parents there's no telling how they treat the children. We are currently looking at other schools for our child.

This is my daughters first year ( she's in Kindergarten) and I really didn't know what to expect, as this is my only child. However, as we go into the 2nd semester for this school year, I have nothing but positive things to say about Hickory Flat. Her teachers are caring and they truly challenge her. Kindergarten is alot of work, but I enjoy the challenge! I love all the parent/student involvement events that the school has- and I think that is the key to learning the culture of your childs school- be active. The innovation stations is really what sets this school apart! My daughter looks forward to these- and I love them too!

My daughters teachers are great. Mrs. Hampson and Mrs. Ragsdale both care for my daughter. I also appreciate the innovative approach to learning at this school especially the innovation stations. So far we have had a nice experience.

My daughter attends this school and her teacher is great... Really seems like she cares and like she wants to be there and they have great innovation station programs!! Unfortunately, that's not the same for the front office staff. When I call they are short, rude and unwilling to help and apparently your not supposed to show up at the school for any reason cause they treat you like your bothering them. They have their daughters hanging out, and Starbucks coffee brought in, while they are getting options on what items they are shopping for online, All while your standing there waiting on someone to acknowledge your even there! And when they do... watch out!! They are very disrespectful and rude and make it very clear you are bothering them!

The ladies that work in the front office of this school have the worst customer skills that I have ever experienced in my life! The front office is the front run and face of the school as far as the parents. They are the first people you come in contact with when entering or contacting the school and sadly they do a horrible job! The principal needs to get a handle on her employees there. They are rude, inconsiderate and unfriendly. They do not greet you with a smile, they never say thank you, and they make you seem like you are bothering them whenever you ask them for something or call up there. I have heard about the rudeness of the front office but now I have witnessed it first hand. Also no homework worksheets are given and the teachers yell at the students.

Hickory Flat is a great school. I am a school system employee, and I could choose any school in the district in which to place my daughter, and I have chosen to place her at Hickory Flat for all of her elementary schooling. I am also a former teacher and school administrator, and I continue to be extremely impressed with the teacher quality in this school and the visibility and accessibility of the administration. I have nothing but good things to say about this truly great school!

I am starting my 12th year at Hickory Flat as a parent with my 3rd child. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this school, teachers and administration. I believe that the school does a great job offering parent involvement opportunities and with communication as so what is going on in the school. The teachers have always been great about communicating what's going on in their classroom. I could not ask for a better, more loving environment for my daughters education. Even though I personally know most of the office staff I am still required to sign in and follow the rules just like everyone else and I am completely okay with that. I feel good knowing that my children's safety is a top priority while she's there. Thank you to the teachers, staff and administration for all that you do!

I absolutely HATE this school! It was an okay school before they became a charter school, now it is terrible. The staff is rude and unprofessional. Mr Grant (assistant principal is clueless), they don't believe in homework or PE for the kids. The only thing they teach the kids to do is pass the things on the state test. Nothing else.

The curriculum is great, but the Principal, and her administrative staff are horriable. Very unproffesional, and rude.

Hickory Flat is a great school, I have two kids at the school and I am glad my kids attend. My only suggestion is that all grade K teachers get on the same page, I'm not as happy with my youngest child grade K teacher as I was with the oldest. However, I think it's a great school and they have awesome teachers!

Hickory Flat Charter has been a great school for our son. We moved here when he was in 1st grade & he's now in 3rd. We've had great teachers & he's adjusted well. Mrs. Crumbley is the BEST principal we've had between our three children. I love to see how involved she is throughout the day whether kicking off her shoes & helping clean up in the lunchroom or out in the rain in the afternoons with the car-riders. We have a select few parents who are super involved but I'd love to see more parents come up & help support our school. I believe my child does better with how involved we are. Your children need to see you up there & active. The teachers are very appreciative when the parents volunteer their time in helping with class projects.I love the steps they have taken to keep our children safe. I don't want just anyone coming in & walking the halls or going to the lunchroom. You just can't trust very many people these days. I also think it's great that we have parents helping with the car-riders in the morning. It makes such a difference in the mornings. Our son also loves the IS this year. I hate they miss recess but they are keeping them active in other ways. Great Job HFCE!!!

My daughter has just started her second year at Hickory Flat Charter Elementary in first grade and I would rather have her there than in any of the other schools, including the private schools. At open house we walked in and the staff greeted her by name and talked to her. I love how her teachers keep me up to date with how she is progressing and what she needs to work on. I can't wait to see how the innovation stations encourage my child to learn. The kids no longer have a normal recess but they get to have classes on dance in other cultures and exercising to fun music. The have found a way to give the kids something fun to do where they can learn and have a blast. I have never seen a elementary school that has a laboratory class, or a sign language class. How amazing is that. I like that her school is proactive about keeping my daughter safe by having people check in anytime they come into the school. Thank you to the staff who work so hard to make Hickory Flat Charter Elementary a great school.

Awesome school, climbing all heights ASAP. My kid started from 3rd grade when we moved from other county and soon we felt like a family member there. Each staff member are performing their assigned duties very well and students also love them. The procedures are very simple, straigh forward and for safety of all, so whenever we follow the rules there is no hurdle in a way. I love the part of checking the IDs when you want to attend some function, lunch, class-room celebrations, etc.

Hickory Flat Charter Elementary is a community-serving school where the students receive a quality education. Their new charter status will enable children to further their education beyond traditional didactic methodology. This innovative approach to teaching allows the educators the flexiblity to meet students where they are. This school is on the right track toward inclusion of all students regarless of their abilities and learning styles. I am very grateful that this school is a part of my community.

Wow. Interesting post by the last parent. As the saying goes, there are always two sides to a story. My son has been attending Hickory Flat since Kindergarden, and is now in the 4th grade. My experience has been nothing like the ones listed below. Not to judge anyone or to speculate, but maybe our experience has been good for we have made it a priority to be involved in our child's experience. I have made it my business to make sure I know the principal, staff, and all of the teachers he has had. I have also made it a priority to make sure they know me and that I'm here to support them and my child in any way possible. Furthermore, I follow the procedures. I have never had a problem showing up, signing in at the front, getting a visitors pass and taking something to the classroom or attending lunch. In these days and times you can't be too careful in protecting our kids. During registration they ask for anyone who might come to pick up your child, etc...Furthermore, if it will be someone different, all you do is send a note to school informing as such. As for the grading system I have had my issues with it, but it's not a HFE policy, it is Henry County's.
