This school is wonderful! You really feel like part of a family. The small class sizes allow for individualized learning.

I have 3 children that are attending or did attend St. Patrick’s School in Mauston. My two oldest children are now at the Mauston High School and achieving at a high level. I know the high expectations and study habits learned from a St. Pats education has provided them with the tools necessary to succeed at the next level and beyond.

St. Patrick School has done an outstanding job preparing my children for high school by providing an environment that reinforces good study habits and teaches study skills. I am so happy they did not jump on the Commim Core band wagon as there is not much structured grammar required after grade 5, according to the Common Core, and where does that get college-bound students? Traditional textbook guided curriculum with lots of technology, in a very welcoming, family environment, is what I want for my kids.

After one year, I continue to have concerns about St. Patrick's and the quality of education provided. Rather than current testing that is aligned with Common Core Standards, they continue to use the outdates and relatively useless ITBS. There has been no visible effort to aligned the curriculum with the Common Core Standards, and the curriculum in general is significantly behind the standards of the state of Wisconsin. They curriculum materials are out of date and need to be replaced. The math and language arts programs seem to be particularly behind grade level and weak. My student was in a classroom where he complained that the teacher was not able to maintain behavior and there was constant disruption in the morning. The teacher's response was that, the hard to manage students tire in the afternoon, so we are more focused then. Thus this teacher was able to justify not providing a learning environment for 1/2 of the day. Saint Patrick's needs to update its curriculum, become standards focused, and provide a education that adequately prepares student for success in high school and college.
