One of my biggest concerns moving to Mason years ago was whether the quality of the education was going to be up to par. Mason ISD far exceeded my expectations. This Spring, my third child will graduate from Mason High School. My oldest two have already graduated magna cum laude from major universities. All three of my children have been State finalists and medalists in everything from tennis, track, and cheer to debate, various UIL academic events and multi-year State champions in One Act Play. It's not just my kids; a number of kids do the same. The school has a long history of being very competitive at both sporting events and academic events. I think that is something unique about this school. Its size (2A) and the quality of its students and educators make it where kids have the opportunity to be competitively involved in multiple scholastic and sporting events. It's the type of school where at halftime during the football game, many of the cheerleaders and football players put down their pom-poms and helmets and grab their instruments to go play in the band. Then the day after the game they may be on a bus heading to a UIL academic event. In my experience, kids that are that involved with school activities generally don't have the time or energy to go get into trouble. I find it very impressive that for a small rural school, a number of its graduates have gone on to prestigious institutions such as Yale, West Point, U. S. Naval Academy, Pepperdine and the like. I wouldn't hesitate to put a kid in school at Mason.

This school has great teachers, a great curriculum, and a wonderful athletic department. The only issues I have with this school are the students and the office staff. The two groups listed above are very, very biased. Unless you have money or are from a ranching family, your child will have a hard time at this school. The school is very, very clique oriented, and anything different from the "jock, prep" group will be to your child's detriment. I myself had to be put into homeschooling because of all the judgment and bullying issues. While the staff has a fair bullying policy, they rely primarily on the students to report issues, which seldom happens. The school also has one of the fastest, roughest rumor "production" (for lack of a better word) out of any school I've seen, and I've been to a few other schools. The one thing I can say is that when you develop friends in this school, they will stick by you until the end. There is a lot of loyalty to this school. They offer more classes than most of a school this size, which is a huge bonus. I only wish that they had more in the art/music department. All in all, a fair school.
