this school would rather target and prosecute the kids who are tardy and not the kids who are vaping and doing other things...? the teachers are good people but when it comes to students the school is over its head, they cannot control all the things going on around school and even if they could they probably wouldn't do anything about it anyway Mcdowell High School has so much potential but fails to reach it on so many different levels some students do see something and say something.... but the thing is who is going to listen and actually do something about it. Not Mcdowell High School

In the past three years, this school has improved tremendously. It shouldn't get a bad rap. The teachers truly care about the students, the graduation rate has gone up and it has so much student involvement.

This school is more worried and concerned about THEIR image on paper than they are the students, what they are learning, their passions, and being their best.

Mcdowell High School doesn't care about its students and their academic future.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse after the "Athletic Banquet," where the Seniors did not even get a Varsity Letter after participating in a sport for four years... they left my daughter's Senior picture out of the yearbook!! Worst high school EVER!!

Horrible!!! I wish I had investigated the high school before buying a house in Marion, NC. This county desperately needs two high schools - McDowell High School is very overcrowded. One belief is that some groups do not want an additional high school because it will put the sport's teams into a 2A division. Next year, the two junior high schools will become middle schools - resulting in even more overcrowding when the two ninth grades join the high school. Our children's education should be the top priority but it is not. The city wastes so much money on frivolous things such as: new street signs, new downtown, new traffic lights, etc. Try and get your children into the McDowell Tech. early college program (if you are unable to move). Unfortunately, I mistakenly wanted my teenagers to experience high school. I did not do my research in time! Awful!!
