The academy is remarkable and actually offers university classes.

Great school, I graduated class of 2010. The people on here who are whinning about drug problems and bad administration are most likely the parents of kids on drugs and bad behaved kids. Great school!!! The 4x4 non rotation schedule is awesome and gives lots of time for students and teachers to interact. Most of the teachers were awesome. I will be selling my current home soon to move back into this district. Amazing, if i could it 15 stars i would.

There is nothing bad to say about mhs, I am a grad of the class of 2014. I really liked mhs' new principle: Chris Botts. He is always there for the students and is very supportive. I have never found a teacher that wasn't exelent and helpful. I was formerly a student of maize south (which is a terrible school). I can say after seeing both schools that maize high school students in general is more accepting of people. maize high has grown incredibly unbranded (with out cliques) and creates an encouraging and welcoming environment for the students. The ag program is awesome. I highly recomend to any student at maize high to join maize ffa. it is a very positive experience. maize ffa is the only ffa chapter in sedgwick county ks. the culinary arts dept. is awesome. soon to come to mhs is fresh produce grown hydroponically (with out soil) on site in the cafeteria. the administration has changed alot since fall of 2012. they are a lot better at attending to students needs. the counsellors are always willing to help. the lunch ladies are a blast to talk to. the custodians love to socialize with the students. they will make your day great. shop teachers there are awesome!!!

This school is amazing. The unique 4x4 non-rotating block isn't difficult to deal with at all. This school isn't always concerned about being the best (and putting stress on their students to keep a good image) like some Kansas City area schools. MHS wants to see students succeed at their own will- not because the school will be pressuring everyone to keep the scores looking good for looks by teaching to the test only. Teachers are always there to help. There are like 2 fights a year, if any. Some people think the rules are too strictly enforced, but obviously you're just coming from a school with loosely enforced rules or you did something wrong and are in denial. We have fun being who we want to be and living our lives. I totally recommend this school as a proud student who attends!

Great teachers in my opinion. The administration at the principal level, assistant principal level, & the main leadership at the district level is greatly lacking & needs to be completely overhauled. I would not recommend this school at all to any parent. I have pulled out my student & will not let him attend another Maize school ever again. I & my wife are soooooooo disappointed in the leadership & hypocrisy of this school, that I cannot in all good conscience recommend this school (or the school district as a whole) to any parent wanting to transfer to this school. Their morals are degradative, their positions are abused, they cover for each other instead of listening or believing the students; & will suspend or expel a student for the smallest infractions. They'll scratch each others' backs - but yet will browbeat the students down emotionally. They are hypocritical to the core of the administration. Their SRO (in-school police officer) should have been fired long before he actually was - and they were told so by many...but as usual would not listen. If I could give less than a 1 star rating on this review, I would. A huge disappointment in it's leaders. Stay away from Maize!!!

Good teachers and programs become insignificant when you have an administration who "strains at gnats and swallows camels." I have 4 children. 3 of them will graduate from Maize and have plenty of good memories of great teachers and activities. The thing I will remember as a parent is the hypocrisy and inequity of the administration. Give me a school instead where their main focus is educating students. ALL of them, not just the ones that make them look good.

As an alum, I would agree there might be a bit more recreational drug use at Maize, but that shouldn't be an issue if as a parent you take an active role in your child's life and act like a parent and not a friend. Other notes about Maize, it has great Academics and Athletics, and better food that the Wichita school district. It does have cliques and politics like all schools, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, because students learn life isn't always fair. Over all my experience at Maize was excellent, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Great school, my child actually enjoys going to school everyday. The teachers are great, and the district always sends out automatic calls to our home if there will be no school, ect. They always make sure anything the student does is okay with the parent, i love that.. Its just an overall great school.
