I'm currently a student at this school. Personally, I feel like this school could be a LOT better. It has a lot of room for much needed improvement. Lunch is fine. The food isn't the best, and due to the fact that our school is currently under a free lunch program, the food is often cheap and processed. The fruits provided aren't the best quality, and some look like they've been sitting out for a couple of days before they were given to students. In terms of education, I definitely feel like the school focuses more on sports than they do learning. The faculty offers no extra support for students who's native languages aren't English. They just expect students to get good grades with the bare minimum of education ( even as an advanced student I feel disappointed in the amount I haven't learned during my years at Luverne. ) The school is very selective with discipline. More serious issues like homophobia, racism, and ableism, while things like dress code and "defiance" are heavily monitored. Favoratism is very apparent when it comes to discipline as well. Black students with bad grades are watched more, while white students who are more involved with sports and cheer are ignored when they do something wrong. I've heard students yell very racist and homophobic slurs and phrases withith earshot of teachers with no reprocussions. Sometimes I feel like principles are completely useless when it comes to exacting change in this school. Clubs are lacking aswell. Band and Sports activities are the only ones here. I truly feel bad for the teachers that actually care about their jobs and the students and have to deal with the disrespectful and uneducated children at school. Overall: This school definitely benefits the students that are; A) White or at least willing to ignore the problematic actions of white students, B) Sports players, and C) Straight and physically and mentally able people, and does not benefit minorities ( especially those who don't speak English well), people of the LGBTQIA+ community, or people with mental or physical disabilities. The school and town in general is terribly mentally draining and I definitely recommend you finding a better blade to move before your senior year. :)

I have been attending Luverne High School for 12 years now and I can honestly say I love every minute of my time here. It's likes great big family! The students all get along well and know each other by name, and the teachers really go out of their way to help each and every child. I personally believe Luverne continually grows and becomes a better place! When I graduate and have my own children they will be LHS Tigers! Go Big Red!
