Having raised 6 of my older children in other states with mixed results in the various school systems, my wife and I approached the entry of our youngest daughter Into Kindergarten at Trout Primary with a great deal of trepidation, as we were relatively new to Texas. We were especially concerned because our daughter is autistic. We were pleasantly surprised when we met the new principal. She was friendly, engaged and very supportive. In meeting our daughter's teacher, we were further impressed and relieved. It's now a year later and our daughter has experienced a great year at Trout Primary. Now we are even more impressed. We have met and gotten to know many of the staff and teachers. We have found them to be friendly, supportive and very professional. Best of all, our daughter has been accepted by her peers and has progressed tremendously in her learning and skills. We can't say enough good things about this school and it's staff, especially her teacher, Ms. Miller. Our daughter is now looking forward to the beginning of the new school year, having graduated to first grade.We don't know how Trout Primary was before, but we do know that under the leadership of Principle Henderson, it is a terrific learning environment. We would recommend this school to anyone that is fortunate enough to live in this district.

The whole school is incredibly disorganized and there always seems to be a staff member in a frenzy to get it together. The kids are constantly yelled at to not talk and socialize, they are kept in the classroom majority of the day (with the exception of about an hour and 45 minutes when they are at lunch, specials, or recess) doing endless worksheets almost everyday (this is in person teaching too). A lot of the students are not progressing in reading and/or math skills and nothing is really done about it by the teachers. The teachers are constantly doing testing with the students for the same results. There’s constantly an issue with behavior between the students and the teachers. Some teachers don’t even have control of their classroom. There’s no order in this school, the principle wants instruction to take place but doesn’t do much to actually implement anything affective as does the instructional coach. Lastly and most importantly, the principal and some teachers have made ignorant, micro aggressive comments towards the demographic of their students and staff of minority ethnicity. If your child is POC and/or Hispanic/Latinx, do not send them to this school. There is racial prejudice amongst some of the staff. Overall, I would recommend any other school in the district. I just don’t feel like this school has it together for a great, fair, and proper educational experience (IMO).

This school is terribly unorganized and backward. The teachers and staff are constantly yelling at the kids. At lunch the poor kids can't even talk and they often have to go outside to walk the track for discipline problems. The STAAR concepts are being pushed on primary aged children who are not taking the test any time soon. There is no teach and reteach plans and not a clear plan on how to handle the kids with behavioral problems. If you want an overcrowded school filled with kids with behavioral problems and rude incompetent teachers send your kids here! I withdrew mine before the semester even ended..Needs improvement!

I was excited for my boys to start another year at trout, even though I really never met the principal or the secretary. When I went to enroll them, I was filling out paper work and I was confronted by a surprised secretary who informed me that my grandsons were in the wrong district, and she was in a hurry to go eat lunch. I informed them they were there all last year and the just noticed. Kurth primary administration really needs to work on there people skills and professionalism, sadly I must say I was very insulted and upset at the way I was treated by them. Teachers are great though! A disappointed Grandparent. :( Back packs wouldn't be emptied for two weeks at a time .

My daughter is in kindergarten at Trout. The teachers there seem really involved - no matter which teacher is welcoming her to school in the morning, they know her by name and seem genuinely glad to see her. My daughter started the school year in a class with a boy who constantly bullied her. When the school was asked to move her away from this boy, she was in a new classroom within a week. Her teacher is excellent and so involved. Trout has a new principal (since the review that was posted in 2007) with an excellent reputation. I can't give Trout 5 stars because we haven't been with them for a full year yet - I'd like to do another review when my daughter is "graduating" from Trout and compare, but what I have seen so far is excellent.
