The reviews are biased. I’m sorry. I’ve talked to too many parents who will attest to their experience with Melrose. You can’t hide the truth behind fake reviews. Melrose is catered to certain demographics and if you are not that, you will feel it. Your child will as well. It’s no coincidence that positive reviews have come after a few negative ones. Literally, a day and days afterwards? Let’s be honest here.

We couldn’t be happier with our experience at Melrose for both Kindergarten and 1st grade. The teachers are incredibly warm, patient, and make learning so fun and engaging for the students. My child has blossomed in this nurturing environment, gaining confidence and developing a love for school. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed to meet each child where they are, and the focus on building both academic skills and social-emotional growth is truly impressive. From learning to read and write to developing important friendships, this school has been the perfect foundation for my child’s educational journey. Our principal, the teachers, and staffs here are outstanding. They create such a positive and encouraging atmosphere where children feel safe to take risks, ask questions, and grow. We are so grateful for the wonderful support and encouragement they receive every day!

Melrose has been a great school for both of my kids. I feel like both of my kids have been seen and heard by their teachers even during the time when school was closed due to COVID. Now that school is open teachers have been very responsive to work with me when my kids have needed extra help. Also there is plenty going on to provide enrichment for students such as theater and the science lab.

Just about the only thing that is really nice about this school is the family engagement. Lots of way to be involved. Teaching, is not so great. My child’s first year here was a nightmare. The male 4th grade teacher is not great at all. We’ve heard quite a few negative comments about him in regard to race. POC specifically. Parents removing their kids out of his class due to his ways. Our experience with him was when he had to actually teach our child, because as we ALL know (and expect these teachers to know) every child does NOT learn the same! He did not want to pivot his way of teaching to reach each child. We were told our child struggled and they couldn’t figure out why. From 3-5 grade! Only for our child to be in middle school now and he is flourishing!! She/He made All-Stars (all As & Bs) every semester. So I’m so confused on how she/he struggled here. Where it was less challenging. She/He didn’t. The teachers struggled! The 5th grade reading teacher is awesome!! She is literally the best and I aim for you to find her. Banner is her name. Bullying is big here! They do not do much about it either. They as in the principal. It’s centered around who all donates. Demanding 200,000 each semester is insane. Field trips are fun. Principal is a huge Pokémon fan. Do with that what you may. There’s a guy who works the gate acting as security who thinks he’s top flight security, rude, and lacks integrity. I actually caught him and another staff who teaches STAR, after school, yelling at the kids. We have it on video. Other students sent it to other kids in a group chat. Once they realized the kids had their phones out, their ton changed. That is unacceptable. They really let things slide. You have to watch closely and read between the lines.

Melrose is a gem of a school. I highly recommend it to any parent looking for a school that will provide their children (Grades 2 and 3) with a strong foundation for the future. We looked at way too many schools - including public and private. This school community has exceeded our expectations. Academics are also fantastic, offering something for every interest, especially science and tech. My kids LOVED being a part of the class musical this year! One of the standout features is the school’s commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment. The diversity within the school is celebrated, and my child has learned the importance of empathy and understanding different perspectives. The STAR anfter school program is terrific. And FREE! Mr. Needleman and Mrs. Bertucelli and Coach Manny are approachable and responsive. Even the front office people are kind. I have seen my children grow in confidence and enthusiasm for learning, and I credit much of this to the positive and encouraging atmosphere at MELROSE!I only wish they had Melrose middle school…

My son has been going to this school since Kinder. We absolutely love it. The staff, the principal, other kids - all around a well rounded school. I can tell my son is learning and having fun.

We have 2 kids at Melrose, the older one has been here since kindergarten and is now in 5th grade. Mr. Needleman and Ms. Bertuccelli are caring, thoughtful, and dedicated to the school community (children and parents). The teachers are enthusiastic and committed. Highly recommend.

My son is in 2nd grade at the schoo. We've had amazing experience so far. His Kinder teacher was absolutely lovely, careing, compassionate and instilled the basics for success. The 1st grade teacher brought the scholastic intansity my son needed. Now we've started 2nd grade and are also very happy with the approach the teacher is taking. The principal is very involved, careing and has the best sense of humor! The afterschool program is free which is such a life saver and the director of that program is excellent as well. The parents are very involved in the school. There are a lot of extra activities, events and fun things to do.

My child has been in this school for three years and has never said he doesn't want to go to school. My child says that school is so fun and that teachers, staff, friends, and everything in school is fun. At first, I was worried because there was no homework given to students at school, but maybe because there is more time, the child likes to read a lot of books, find what he wants to do, and do it on his own. I am very satisfied to be a family at this school.

I find very difficult to communicate with teacher. My son is started Kinder at Melrose and now 2nd grade. He is not happy at school. We are looking for another school for him. He does not feel comfortable with teachers and seems hard to solve problems with friends when they disagree. I am just waiting this semester is over.

My son is finishing up his first year in kindergarten. Even though the past year has been difficult with much of the instruction happening over zoom, the teachers and the PTO have worked hard to create a feeling of community. Even through the screen, my son has learned to read and write and I feel like he is ready for first grade. Since school opened in April he comes home happy and exhausted and excited about the things he is learning. The students appear to be kind to other students and both the teachers and the principal are receptive to feedback and concerns.

I give 5 out of 10. There is no playground. The principal rent the school’s backyard to movie companies in couple times. The company’s staff(mostly men) work at school’s backyard for a week sometimes. And the kids eat their lunch in front of that people. This school is like a neighborhood school not a magnet school. My daughter had 3 years in that school and she never be happy about the theachers. They are so strict.

I have two daughters who attending 2nd and 4th grades since their kindergarten in Melrose. I am satisfied diversity and liberal culture in there. The most is that I love providing new technology : MacBook and iPad for all students. PTO and teachers are well coordinated each others.

We just started our daughter in Kindergarden and with all this pandemic, the school has done a great job communicating, explaining, and helping with all questions and concerns. We really like our teacher and have been very impressed with how well the school has handle this situation. So far so good !

Terrible school. I have just figured out that administration office is pushing peopke to give good reviews in here. That's why the reviews look great. But trust me if your kid has art skills or even science skills DO NOT SEND YOUR KID HERE! Worst LAUSD school ever. For math yes you can send them here but expect to be get bullyied from the teachers.Pathetic.
