After raising 8 children over a 40 years period, I can attest to the fact that not only is Durango the WORST school any of my kids have ever attended but the entire school district is the worst. That isn't an opinion. it is a fact if you research online based on research groups. I won't go into the many instances of inadequacy, but by the time my daughter finally had a breakdown and refused to attend, I begged the school district to allow her to attend another school that was close by. They steadfastly refused. I appealed and received the same response. We were forced to flee the state and it was the BEST thing that we could have done. If your child is here and not thriving it is not worth the fight to get the school to do their job, it is like trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. RUN for the hills. My only regrets are that I didn't get out of there sooner and that I couldn't bring all of the other kids that are forced to attend with me.

Both of my boys go here with my older son graduating tomorrow. We are on COSA to go to this school and I love it. The school keeps us informed and included, and the teachers respond well to the students' needs. Both of my boys are high achievers, into extracurricular activities, and take pride in their school. I know every experience is different, but for my boys, Durango is a great school.

Both of my teenagers go here. My daughter is graduating and has been an A+ student her entire academic years. This didn’t change here. She has had both good and mediocre teachers but mostly good. Quite a few have been inspiring. My son last year as a freshman finally got academically motivated and mostly due to his algebra teacher. He has been able to stay after for any help he’s needed to understand his classes and assignments. And is getting A’s and B’s. They are both involved in clubs and he is in sports. I truly think they have both put themselves out there for the best experiences. The dress code is a little strict but not too bad there has been a change in a lot of administration this year.

So i was a senior in the 2021-2022 timeline and let me just say, i always LOVED highschool… until i got to Durango. Moving across the country from one of the best schools in middle Tennessee, i was appalled to find out how “behind” this school was in comparison.. and i STILL keep hearing its one of the better ones in southern nevada. I just dont get it. Today I will address a few things: 1. Dresscode2. Bullying3. Academics4. Administration The dresscode is absolutely so strict. Supposedly it is up to the principal on what the dresscode is: this doesnt help when it consistently targets young girls and boys to completely cover up head to toe, all throughout the year, even when its 110 degrees outside and 75% of the school is outside. I once got dresscoded for a quarter sized hole in my pants located over my pocket. I wouldnt have gotten dresscoded if i had covered it with my hand, simple as that. I got dresscoded and forced to wear the most humiliating pair of grey sweats for my jeans with one tiny tear in which you couldnt even see any skin. I knew wayyyy too many girls and boys being dresscoded over stupid things like this.2. Bullying thrives in durango. Luckily i wasnt one to really be picked on because i stuck to myself at durango for my last year. Then again, i didnt know anyone. But the people who i did know, were sometimes constantly harassed by the same people and the school did nothing. Not only that, but homophobia and racism was very clear in many ways. The GSA (gender and sexuality alliance) alone was a target for many and students, just trying to help, were ridiculed. 3. Academics. So to be honest, most of the teachers at durango are fine, i personally didnt have more than normal bad stories about teachers. Except, all of the good teachers, are or were leaving! On the other hand, the plan to get students into college was superficial and not very exciting; it more “do this or die.” I, myself, have been an A plus student my entire life until i got to durango where i flunked an entire class and tried to drop out multiple times all together.Administration. I believe that the administration in the school was the worst of it all. They did NOT allow students to express themselves and even suspended a very loved student for “causing a group disturbance” when they won homecoming. Believe me, it was on the news! (Chan 8) The admins were no help and no student feels like they care. Durango truly resembles a prison and i would never go back

This school Is horrible! My son attended this school and it was ok in the beginning, but later in the year the shenanigans began. My son started getting his phone taken often and most of the time he was calling me, his mom! He was getting dress coded numerous times. I felt like the punishment was for me instead of him. I work and and am a single parent, I do not have time for their control issues. With their 2/10 rating it shows that they are focusing on how they look as opposed to other schools instead of helping their low income students and students with disabilities. They have a high graduation rate, but these students are not prepared academically for college. Their focus is superficial and the deep issues that they have are not being fixed. Furthermore, the staff is being controlled by their numerous assistant principles who are visible only to reprimand students about cell phones and dress codes.

Awful! some of the administration are power tripping and taking it to far.. I feel that with so many kids today that are struggling with life, anxiety, depression, school studies, home life... I could go on but won't. They have no consideration or care about any student as a person a individual! just as a whole unit and a rule is a rule not matter what. If your a minute late you are sent to the Deans office! come on that's ridicules and the parent has to come into the office. If someone does this as a habit that's one thing but No not Durango one time is the charm. And they wonder why kids don't make it to school.

This school is absolutely horrible. The students and some teachers are alright from what I have heard but the administration rpc students for things as simple as not leaving a backpack out of a bathroom stall. Even the teachers complain about the administration and some even plan to leave this school as soon as they can. They're overly strict and are not encouraging towards academics at all. If a student wanted to try out an ap course the counselors would straight up tell them no and will not encourage the student to challenge themselves. They're also very controlling towards teachers and will not even let students read books in regular english classes. They control whatever the teacher is allowed to teach and they will make surprise visits to make sure they're doing so. I understand being strict towards the students but they don't even let the teachers have any control on what they can teach. They have even said that teachers recommendations to classes for students do not matter because at the end of the day they choose the students classes.

The teachers there are great, at least the ones I've had. Though, the quality of the food is what a low-quality prison would have, the rice texture is cardboard, their pizza is the same, except its sometimes cold, all in all the food sucks, yet they've managed to afford better trays, Chick-Fil-A for top students, giant cookies for A/B honor roll, and more. There are at least 9 assistant principles, 1 of which barely applies the "no hat" policy to himself, but will rag on other students who aren't following the policy. They've managed to spend more for the quality of top students than they have for the students as a whole. They really only care about the teachers and top students, otherwise you do not get the same treatment. They barely do anything to encourage the students to carry on and graduate, and only put in enough effort for their "school spirit"

Probably the worst school any of my kids have ever attended. Taking my daughter out to home school . I knew it was bad going in , but it exceeded my expectations.

I graduated from Durango last year (class of '15), and my experience attending this school was pretty good. The school is very diverse, so you won't have any problem finding someone or a group to hang out with. The rules at pretty strict, especially with cell phones and dress code. Just like any school, you might see a fight here and there, but the school does a pretty good job of preventing fights from happening. During my four years I saw no more than 6 fights, which many of those fights were brief. The teachers are good, they're usually there after school to offer help; however, there are a few teachers whose availability after school is not so good. The school is also generally clean.

I don't know why some parents were rating school for "excellent". Maybe someone in the family working in the school??? Every time I went to the school I didn't receive a warm welcome. Instead, I had to wait until staff to finish their personal chatting and then unwillingly ask if I need anything. Staffs were rude talking to their students and that was a bad example. I have never seen the school principal in the campus. Maybe too much office work in his office? It's a Terrible school.

Durango HS is an amazing school! Most of the population is spirited and the teachers are great . I graduated this year (2014) and I am extremely proud to say I graduated from Durango hs, I wouldn't want to go to any other high school. I went to Durango for 3 years , my freshmen year I attended spring valley which personally I don't recommend. The children have attitude and are belligerent. The school is not spirited at all and I hated my teachers. I came to Durango my sophomore year and have loved this school all 3 years, I loved the assemblies , the spirit days , the sports , the pep rallies , everything ! But the most important learning! Teachers made my days worthwhile. I would definitely recommend this school to anyone ! Hs is a fun experience if you enjoy and get involved ! If your child is not involved then they probably won't have much fun , but if they go to Durango maybe other students can convince them to ! My high school experience at Durango was awesome and I'm so thankful I attended this school ! Go trailblazers !

Great school, great staff. One of the best schools in Las Vegas. Teachers are outstanding and seem to care about the kids.

Durango High School is a fantastic place for students to learn academically, socially, and grow emotionally. The majority of the teaching staff consistently goes above and beyond to ensure maxmium care and attention is provided to all.

It doesn't like a school, but club. Staffs were not acting professional. How you expect all the teenage students to be nice??? I guess that's what the principal likes.

It is one of the terrible school. staff is rude and helpless. the secretary of principal acts like a watch dog and wouldn't let me give my feedback to principal. I would never let my kid go to this school if I have had other choices.
