Maui Prep is such a amazing school. From the administration to the teachers and staff, they always go above and beyond for the students and their families. As a parent of a 2023 grad, I honestly don’t know where my kids would be without all the support they’ve gotten from this school. They’ve helped them grow and succeed in ways we never imagined. Maui Prep is more than just a school, it’s a community that cares and wants the best for every student. Maui Prep Strong—we love you, Maui Prep! Thank you for everything you do!

Terrible experience at Maui Preparatory Academy. This is not a school for families wanting a welcoming, inclusive educational community. The administration and board of trustees do not seek input from teachers, staff or parents before making policy decisions that affect our lives and those of our children. They currently have a policy in place to ban transgender children, creating a divided school community and an unhealthy school environment. The curriculum is subpar at best, definitely not a “college prep” school. Do not recommend.

I recently graduated from Maui Prep (2021), and I can confidently say that it is a wonderful school. Maui Prep did an excellent job of preparing me not only for academics but for life itself. The teachers genuinely took the time to get to know their students and understand what worked best for each of them.Lately, Maui Prep has faced criticism for its so-called "anti-trans" policy, but if you take the time to research the situation, you’ll find that this characterization isn’t entirely accurate. I believe the new rules they are implementing are beneficial, and more schools should consider adopting similar policies for the safety of their students.

I graduated from this institution in 2021. Recently, I've learned about Maui Prep's proposed anti-trans policies they want to impose onto students, and without parents' involvement in that process. Some examples are "respect he/she pronouns exclusively, students shall dress themselves in the uniform of their birth gender, and restroom facility use is based on biological birth gender." Since then, a board of trustees member resigned, and parents are outraged because of the lack of transparency. Since then, I've attempted to contact the school, but have been consistently ignored for over two weeks now. Before sending your child here, think about the implications of an institution that denies trans existence.

We were scholarship students recently unenrolled. Some staff and teachers are great and this is not indicative of them. The leadership, however, needs to change should this school have any chance of being a safe space that can live up to the values they have listed on their website. There is no room for collaboration or constructive criticism (at least not with scholarship families). Perhaps it is not the case with those paying 20k per year. I brought up 2 instances of harmful behavior. Both times I was treated like I was the problem. As a person who also taught at a University- I know without a doubt the validity of the complaints. Any true leader would have approached these issues differently. Instead, my 9 and 10 year old girls were even removed from a third party dance class on campus by the head of school because someone has a power complex. We had already secured permission from the dance teacher for our daughters to attend after we unenrolled them. I am disgusted that girls feelings do not matter there. I am doubly disgusted that it was me that was painted to be the issue. The campus is beautiful but the academic rigor was not up to par for 5th grade. 2nd grade was great. Many families lack options due to the Lahaina Fire and it is unfortunate that there is no system of accountability at this educational institution. Listen to the coconut wireless on this one- perhaps it’s a safe space for the paying full tuition client or even the students of employees- but tread warily if you are not a member of the hegemonic majority there.

This school is great compared to the other schools in Maui. The thing about Maui Prep is that there are not many sexist teachers, but there are some teachers who favor the boys. Nevertheless, some good teachers are beneficial and make class fun. I feel very safe at this school though there have been some instances of theft from other students. This school deals with bullying in a way that is usually not done at other schools which is very much appreciated. Others may tell you that the school gives a lot of homework, but there isn't. Though Maui Prep is called a college prep school, it doesn't help. I love the school here. BUT PLEASE DEAL WITH THE NOT SO GREAT PARTS!!!!!!

Both of my children have attended Maui Prep since early childhood. My oldest daughter graduated in 2020 and is attending Northeastern University in Boston. She feels that Maui Prep prepared her for the rigors of attending a competitive university. Maui Prep is a small school with so many opportunities for our kids. There are robust sports programs, science programs, many opportunities for performing arts - Music, Drama and Dance. The middle school and high school have many opportunities for extracurricular activities through the school.

Maui Prep is a gem that Ivy League and other prestigious colleges have put on their radar to recruit outstanding students. Under the new leadership of Dr. Solis, the school has managed the 2020-2021 COVID year wonderfully considering the circumstances. Protocols and policies that were enforced daily resulted in a successful school year with very little interruption. Teachers are amazing and genuinely interested in student's academic and social success. They have a full-time college advisor that works with each student to ensure they get accepted to the college of their dreams. The school community is very friendly, family-like, and none of the issues we had during the school year was left unresponded. The school values diversity and academic excellence and welcomes students of diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Maui Prep is getting more popular and known because teachers, school leaders, and the whole school community works together and are aligned in their goals for the benefit of all students.

it was definitely not a good experience. the school has the potential to be a good one, but at the moment it is pretty awful.

Horribly, horribly mismanaged...specifically the inept administration. Not one staff member says the same thing. Will NOT back up what they’re saying in writing. No one is on the same page. The high school doesn’t even follow a curriculum! Quite commonplace for numerous students to transfer out. Class titles are changed mid-semester with no thought to messing up high school credit. Class size is NOT 10:1. There’s a reason their average high school graduating class is less than a dozen each year when their elementary school is overflowing. The only thing they are consistent about is self-promotion, collecting tuition and never ending fundraising. NOT a good experience. If I can prevent EVEN ONE family from the experience our family (1 middle schooler, 2 high schoolers) has had, it will be worth it. We wholeheartedly regret moving to Maui in order to send our children to Maui Prep. Very costly misstep...both financially and emotionally.
