Children are not treated well here. Method of behavior management is yelling, scolding and secluding (placing child in a small closet by himself). It makes me sick to think of what else could go on while no one is looking.

This school sells itself as a reading program, but it is really so much more. My son was diagnosed with childhood apraxia of speech at 20 months. Research suggested entering an early reading program because it is likely that my child will have more difficulty learning to read. Mrs. Adams said she would take him the minute she heard my story, even before he started speaking sentences. After seven months (age three), my son is beginning to read. But they are not only helping with reading. Mrs. Adams prides herself in teaching each child as an individual. My son struggles with fine motor, so she focuses on it with him. He is also learning math, geography, cultural issues and history. I visited every 3k program in town before choosing this one. My son is beyond defiant and I knew the other programs could not offer the structure he needed. Mrs. Adams somehow manages to offer zero tolerance for bad behavior while still getting hugs from her students at the end of the day. This program has been vital to the neurological development of my child. So much so that even though my husband is moving for a job next month, I am staying here for the next year so my son can finish his preschool with Mrs. Adams.

Mrs. Adams has created a wonderful program that actually works. Not only is my daughter reading but they reinforce behaviors and values that typical preschool programs lack.

We have had two children attend the Clara Fields program. Our son was one of the first students of Clara Fields. At age 3, he was reading proficiently. Now, at 8 years old, he skipped a grade in school and amazingly reads at an 8th grade level. His vocabulary and syntax is that of an adult. His confidence level soared because of his ability to read and write and his overall knowledge level in all areas increased because of his love for reading. He spent time at school focusing on math and is at the 7th grade level at age 8. Clara Fields teachers taught our son to be disciplined in his subjects, helped him focus on tasks and assignments and made learning fun.Our daughter started Clara Fields later when we realized she only knew 5 sight words after attending Kindergarten. We immediately enrolled her in the Clara Fields summer program and again the results were excellent. She is the top reader in her first grade class. She reads accurately with good comprehension. She not only know how to read all of the sight words but can spell them too.Clara Fields is the type of program that can advance your child or give them the tools they need to "catch up". We will always be grateful for the individualized attention they gave to our children and appreciate that they worked with each child at their own skill level.

Clara Fields Literacy Program is an excellent head start for young children (3-5) to gain reading proficiency at an early age. My experience with the program in this past 18 months has been nothing but positive. Most children are eager and happy in this stepped up literacy program and excel over their classmates in the normal school settings.

Clara Fields Multicultural Literacy Program is one of our county's best hidden secrets! With only a few months into the school year, my daughter was able to write the alphabet (upper & lower case letters), write her first & last name, sound out basic words, and could recognize some sight words. Mr. & Mrs. Adams run a very efficient program complete with individual attention and open communication with parents. I will continue to recommend this program!

My son did not know his abc's and could not read when he started. Just after two months, he could write is name and sound it out. Mrs. Adams does wonderful teaching and takes her time with each child. He loves going to school and really enjoys reading.

My son attends this program and it has done wonders for him! He gets individualized interaction with teachers who focus on systematic phonics based reading. The volunteers and teachers in this program are great role models for students. Communication between teachers and parents is encouraged so I feel like I know exactly what my son is working on and therefore can reinforce concepts at home. A varied multi-sensory approach is used to teach these young children, which is engaging and fun. My son has built so much confidence and will enter Kindergarten this fall reading fluently. He has been in the program 8 months and already reads "for fun." He thirsts for knowledge and does not hesitate to pick up a book pertaining to his interests, using the skills he has learned from class in order to gain more knowledge.

Clara Fields Multicultural Literacy Program teaches literacy on the broad base of phonological awareness; therefore, all the components of reading and laying a strong foundation on which to build literacy skills are covered. 45% of the nation's children are at risk of educational failure because of their lack of literacy skills. We are servicing the children of La Crosse County that make up part of that 45%. Fields graduates enter kindergarten reading two grade-levels above their peers!
