Our family moved to this school district and bought a home, specifically for the "Great Schools". My Kindergartener listened and watched while his teacher screamed at certain children from her chair. It was half a year of worrying and wondering why my child no longer loved or even liked school, and for him to finally tell me about how it makes him nervous when his teacher screams, but we stuck it out. As a 1st grader my student was bullied and harassed by his teacher, and apparently was "too white" for this teacher. She even called him a bobble head for being afraid to use his words with her, at our first meeting in October, when she finally reported to me that my child had an "F". My student became afraid for the first time ever about going to school with this teacher shouting and bullying certain students. The most unacceptable part occurred when she had never communicated any issues and never reported the "F" my student had from Aug-Oct.. She told me my child did not know how to correctly talk, walk, or do anything for that matter! What a bunch of lies, my student had excellent grades from his previous school and absolutely no health issues. We were new to the area, but when I filed a report against this teacher for discrimination, the school board took NO ACTION in protecting the civil rights of my child. We currently homeschool and are very disturbed by the amount of complaints we have heard from others who were "Not from around here" and have removed their child from this discriminatory environment. My student is excelling in homeschool, but it is really disappointing that he can not attend his district school. What a bad choice we made to move to the Blue Grass district.

Blue Grass is a huge family! Everyone goes above and beyond for students and families. Parents are very involved, as well as, the community. Great elementary school.

I keep hearing about how the school isn't "big enough" or its not "modern enough." Let me just say this: I'm glad it's not. The teachers and staff are engaged and welcoming. The school does well academically, and I appreciate the old charm about the school. Sure, you could go modern, but why? It's not about the look of the school, as much as it is about the character of the school. By the way, my child loves going to BG.

Try A.L. Lotts or Northshore Elementary (both within a few miles of Blue Grass). You'll discover a more modern administration and PTA that are both open to new ways of thinking and performing for the best interest of your child.

Teachers are very engaged. PTA is active in the school and provides additional funding for STEM lab, computers, and playground equipment. Students seem well-behaved. Small school lends itself to agreat learning environment.

Blue Grass is a wonderful school. I have been impressed with how much the staff cares about students. The PTA is also outstanding. Parents are always welcome!

I'm proud of the consistently high standards Blue Grass holds for its staff and students. The small(er) size offers a warm, friendly environment that fosters learning and collaboration. I understand Blue Grass is the only school in the system to have a full-time STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) teacher and STEM lab is now in full rotation with other Encore classes such as gym, art, computers and music. We love our school!

I am generally discusted with this school. My son was struggling terribly at BlueGrass and the teachers and administraition were completely indiferent. I was told that my son did not have the ability to do his work. We have thankfully been transfered to another school in Knox county and I am really amazed at the difference in my son. He also underwent educational testing at his new school (my request was refused by Blue Grass) and my son has scored gifted. He would have not passed second grade if we had stayed at Blue Grass. Now he loves going to school!

Our opinion of this school is poor. We have been at Bluegrass for multiple years, and have experienced far too many teachers that should have been out the door long ago. Oftentimes, we've been the recipient of teachers that are stuck in vey old teaching methodologies, and that fall far below what most would expect regarding parent and student interation (minimal communication, rudeness toward students, and downright laziness). Additionally, it appears that multiple teachers are only primarily focused on teaching the children to test well, but leave out the opportunites for students to truely embrace (or enjoy) what they're learning. These unfortunate examples of teachers have been tenured, but appear to dislike their jobs currently, and seem to have quit on their work long ago. - It's unfortunate that our children have to have them within their schooling experience. The new principal is unsupportive of student or parent needs, and turns a blind eye toward obviously inappropriate teacher behaviors. I will be happy to have my children out of this school. If another school were an option, we would definitely do it.

My family and I relocated here from out of state. We have not had a good experience with this school. I understand that the faculty sticks together as a united front, and that can be a good thing, but not at the expense of the students and their education. I have had negative experiences with my child every year we have been here. The new principal pretends to be kind and involved, but the minute you have a concern, she quickly shows her true colors. The teachers don't communicate, but they will be quick to if it concerns them. They are not concerned with the children's education, unless the child has been picked out as a favorite. I begged for suggestions to help my child, and was given none. I will be glad when my child is out of this school.

I went to tour the school before enrolling my children and discovered such excellent teaching unsolicited. Even the no academic classes were excellent. All I can say is wow!

I just read a couple other reviews about this school and now know that I am not alone. Even though you see a 5 star overall rating here be careful. I am sure there are some good teachers at this school. In fact, during our 4 years here I have met some very nice ones. However, there are some really nasty ones that will ruin it for everyone. It seems like no one is willing to speak up either. My personal thought is - if you are not there to teach and it isn't something you like doing, please quit - don't take it out on the kids. Believe me when I say I am not the only parent with this issue, and I wish it was just one teacher. I never believed in home school before this school. Several of us moms have spoke of pulling out our kids from the school. Please do your homework. I am sure others have had great experiences... and I hope that the majority of the time the experiences are not like mine and a few others. I just wanted to post this so other parents could be informed, prepared. It is not as 'peachy' as it seems.

We started out at Bluegrass a few years ago with high hopes (given all the good reviews). We have been at the school for a few years now and have been more than disappointed to say the least. If you have a child that has any sort of special needs this school is not for you. The teachers are not flexible are are disrespectful to, not only the parents, but to both principals when asked to make allowances for students. Needless to say I am at a loss as to what to do - other than pull my son out of school all together. I am sure if you have a kid who doesn't have any challenges this would be a great school for you. It really is sad.

Mr. Mosely, you ARE a gem....an all-star among educators. People like you aim way beyond "meets expectations" and shoot straight for "exceeds expectations." It's people like you that open others' eyes' to the idea that their bar isn't as high as it can go when it's resting at the lowest it could possibly be without being let go. as a grandparent of a 1st grader, I think we are so lucky to be in Blue Grass school zone. Principal is outstanding and the majority of teachers are excellent. Even with the focus on testing instead of what should be focused on, Blue Grass rocks!

Mr. Mosely, the administration staff, and the group of teachers there do a wonderful job of caring about the students and teaching them to be responsible. They use creative ways in teaching concepts which makes learning fun. Parents are encouraged to volunteer their time to help out at school and to be involved with their student's education.
