Lack of communication is a serious problem so far. My daughter has also been hit at recess(three times in the head with a toy). I never hear back in regards to needing info about ANYTHING. This has been by far the worst experience. My daughter no longer feels safe at school and requested to wear something to cover her head. She is 5! This is completely unacceptable! Her first school experience and she is traumatized. Parents please talk to your children about keeping their hands and toys to themselves. Bullying in kindergarten is ridiculous and that starts at home! My child was also lost. Waited to pick her up at the bottom of the school she’s a “walker” and when I didn’t see her it was “oh we thought she wasn’t here today” um what?! And there was no urgency to locate her either! Somehow she got mixed into the bus riders line. This school so far has failed my expectations as a parent and has failed my child. I urge any parent with questions and/or concerns to attend the school board meeting. Something has to change. I was sent to a construction site to enroll her, multiple times, when there was no school to even go into. That should have been the first red flag. I was told they were having teacher meeting night at the school, it was not at the school it was a zoom. I was told I’d receive a copy of the zoom, I never received it. Let down after let down. And now the final straw, my daughter being physically assaulted at school by another student! I reached out about the incident and haven’t heard back yet.

The worst school I have ever had to put my children in. It is repulsive.

I've had two children attend here and have experienced many different teaching styles. We have also experienced the transition to a new principal and vice principal for the 2014/15 year. There are two teachers in the lower grades that are phenomenal. Two. They go above and beyond to support the kids and the parents. My kids never made a complaint about a teacher until they were in the upper grades in which they had to take state assessments. The standard curriculum is taught until October. There is a reasonable and age appropriate amount of homework and almost the entire week to finish it. Children are also engaged with art, science, music and government. However, between October and May, the teachers put too much pressure on the children to get a high score. I know kids hate tests but some adults go too far. One child had experienced a teacher (who is no longer there) slamming her fist on desks while screaming at the class about losing her job if they fail. My child developed anxiety and was afraid of what her response would be if he failed. Another year, a teacher who was perhaps feeling overwhelmed cried in class instead of stepping out.During this time, there is too much emphasis on passing or getting a high score on an assessment. The only homework brought home was math assessment training. My kids have repeatedly said they were sick of hearing about the testing 24/7 and wanted to go back to learning about science. At the end of the school year, the kids in those classes that have assessments, have to cram in all the information they should have been taught from Oct. to May, and they have to pass it all and be tested for progress. It's a very stressful period for little kids to endure, they don't need teachers to behave this way or to feel overloaded with homework at the end of the year.As far as the new staff, a lot of parents were hoping the new principal would be more engaging and that hasn't happened. The only time she is seen is when she is directing traffic. The new VP, however, is doing a great job. He is outside greeting the kids and is always available to parents.Overall, if I had another child, he/she would definitely not attend this school.

We have had nothing but good experiences with the school. Our child's teacher is wonderful and communicates with us regularly via email. She has gone above and beyond to help our child succeed academically and socially. We are so grateful for her. We also really appreciate the guidance counselor for all that he does to help students. He has been a wonderful role model for our child. Any complaints about the leadership at the school are likely about one person whose communication style could use some improvement. She comes across as hesitant and confrontational, but when asked to explain more she is usually cooperative and more patient. Teachers are staff are still learning, too, and we need to support them in that process just as we support our children.

I had all 3 of my kids go thru Heritage. My oldest one is in high school now and is top of his class. The other two are on their way to be academically successful as well. Demographics have changed a lot for this school over the years. The district probably could invest a little more on the school. There has been tremendous growth in the area. Overall teachers and specially administration do a good job considering the lack of resources. We were lucky enough to have some great teachers, many of them who are still there. Yes there are some bad apples that try to take advantage of the system, for the most part it s all good people at the school. I guess that is true of every school/work place. I would highly recommend this school.

The teachers at HES are fabulous! But the principals are HORRIBLE. In every meeting I've had with them, they've been disrespectful and rude to and about the teacher--I couldn't believe it! They never smile and act like this is just another meeting for them and I don't think they even care about the kids...just something else they have to do. They act like they don't even like kids too and are not friendly. I love my child's teacher and know she is doing the best for him. I just wish the principals would at least act like they cared and wanted to help my child.

We've had a great experience with HES! I have 2 kids there and LOVE the teachers they have and have had. I even have positive interactions with teachers they do not have. Both my husband and I have earned our college degrees and value the type of education our children receive and we have not been diappointed with HES. All of my childrens' teachers have done an excellent job at keeping us informed and following up on any questions/concerns we have ever had. I do feel that the principal could be more of a prescence in the school. My interactions with her are somewhat superficial. But I've never had any reason to meet with her personally as there have never been any pressing issues or concerns. The PTA has had issues in the past. I do believe your volunteer experience there is what you make of it. Just like any other place,You can choose to not get involved in the drama and the gossip. I will say that this year things have calmed down quite a bit with the prescence of a male PTA president. Overall, I've been happy with HES as well as my children and if given the choice, i wouldn't chose another elementary school.

Heritage is a great school. This is my daughter's first year and I have no complaints. My child is learning in a wonderful environment. The school keeps you informed in various ways: emails, call outs, written notes

From the principal to about 70 percent of the staff they are not engaged with the quality of education or students. Thank goodness we've moved, now my child will be going to a better school. HES is considered a C+ school
