I'm an alumna from Westpark Elementary and was in the APAAS program. It wasn't so bad, I had many memorable experiences, and my classmates were like family to me. Teachers were supportive and helped me learn. My younger sister, who is currently in Westpark, feels comfortable in the environment, whereas in her old school she hardly made any friends. Occasionally there are some fights and once two children ran away from class (we saw them) but it was mostly okay.

I think the school was generally good. We did the APAAS which was excellent. Not to be brutal but Nancy Mcguire was difficult she told my daughter once to "give up, you wont ever get it anyway" while working on a math problem. Stop teaching if you are going to be snarky like this. And Nancy my daughter got an IB degree in high school and went on to a Ivy League school, did semesters abroad, and did the gifted program from 7th grade through high school at Duke TIP. So Nancy, she did get the math problem and she tackled it well. If you are unhappy dont take it out on 6th graders.

I worked at the school and would not from my experience have anyone I know go to the school, they pushed me out for lame reasons. Also I agree the principle seems to care but never got that feeling from the two of them. It's hard to work in area when a park is part of school as well. Just from my experience and opinion I would not recommend employment at this school site.

My kid has been attending Westpark for the last two years for the APAS program. Her teacher is great but the school itself is fully of bullies. Beware of this before picking this school. I hear stories from my daughter where kids are getting bully all the time from the same group of kids. She was also a victim of the bullying. Reported to the principal and got no follow up on it. The staffs and teachers don't seem to care since they allow this bullying on school grounds. To avoid this kind of bullying, I have to tell my daughter to stand at a different location to be pick up after school. Students goes to school to learn, not to be scare or be victimized from these group of bullying kids. Yes, bullying at an Irvine school and the staffs just allow it. How can they not realizing this is happening on their school grounds? This is the worst school in Irvine. If not for the APAS program, I would not be sending my daughter here. Horrible experience and she have to witness all kinds of bullying going on in this school from the same group of kids. I would NOT recommend this school for any kid!! Unfortunately, we have one more year of Westpark.

Teachers, principal, and overall....good school. However, there is one person who works in the office who just brings down the whole atmosphere of the place. She huff and puffs if you ask her any question, she is rude to parents, kids are scared of her. WHY in the world is she working in a front office at a SCHOOL if she hates people (and KIDS?) so much? She is curt with people who have questions, she doesn't try to understand, rolls her eyes at people, she is condescending to people who don't speak English. Once, she didn't want to do her job and made my child walk around the school in the RAIN, missing most of my child's lunch. I just wish she didn't work at Westpark because she really brings the vibe of the school down. She is the first person you see when you sign your child up to this good school, and immediately, you wonder if everyone else is like her. My child will avoid going into the office just because she is mean to everyone. Shouldn't the office of a school be a welcoming place where children feel comfortable and welcomed? Nope, not with this lady. I would complain to higher -ups, and I would be surprised to hear that others have not, however, I don't need more of her wrath coming down on my child.

My son went here for kindergarten. Overall, we had a great experience at this school. His teacher, Mrs. Plate, was amazing and very sweet, gentle, and a great teacher for the younger kids. He loved going to class everyday. They do a great job encouraging parent participation and volunteerism. I do agree that one of the receptionists is rude, but don't let that deter you from an overall great experience at this school.

There is one secretary in the front office who is rude, rude rude She is a very bad impression for the school. What happens to kids who need something? She is awful. She is my first and permanent impression of Westpark.

The 2014-2015 school year has brought 7 new teachers and a new principal and office clerk. It's been a fantastic change for the school. The principal is active, involved and inventive. My kids have gone here since Kindergarten and I have a 6th grader who will be graduating this year. We had concerns about 2 teachers but they have since left or been moved to a more appropriate grade for their abilities. Otherwise every other teacher we have had has been amazing. The support staff is outstanding and the extra programs (talent show, school play, KROC, etc) are above and beyond other schools in the area. The PTA is full of dedicated parents who work hard to provide extra opportunities to the students.

Teachers of the lower grades don't seem to think out of the box. They need to look from the child's point of view. Lot of favoritism.

With two kiddos now in this school, I have nothing but positive comments. The teachers have been great, the front office and administrative staff are great. The PTA and its continual support of the school are impressive. There is a good support network, and as a parent I feel included and involved. Where I have had questions, someone (teacher, staff, PTA) has been able to answer me. The most important part? My kids LOVE LOVE LOVE their school.

We had an awesome experience at Westpark. My daughter has a learning disorder and we were told that Westpark had a wonderful program by an educational therapist. We switched schools and we definitely made the right decision. My daughter loved her teachers and classmates. She learned the skill she needed to use to be successful.

The experience that we had at Westpark was good for the most part. The teachers that my son had were very good. The office staff is extremely rude. The principal was rude to me several times. However, when I approached her with a problem my son was having with bullying, she did resolve it. The PTA is made up of very dedicated parents. Overall, it is a good school. I don't have any major complaints about the academics.
