Three of my children have attended this school. The school overall does not move my needle. I will note it seems there is a constant turn-over of teachers at this school. From conversations I have had with teachers in this part of the county, they see this as a resume builder, and it gets them to their next job. I've never had an issue with the teachers my children have had. I am a firm believer that the education level of my child is not solely the responsibility of the teacher, that my wife and I play large parts too. I don't understand the new PARCC testing, and according to my wife, neither did 2/3s of the parents... And my comment on leadership? The principal. To me, the man is a weak leader. Why? I have seen him at assemblies where he loses the kids. My wife and I sought to have my son advanced a grade, and while the teacher and the testing supported it, he did not. Citing difficulties learning a new method of math instruction. Too bad my son is #1 in his class at GSMS. And he cannot pronounce my sons name. It isn't a tough one to say. But he screws it up every time. I am not impressed by him, and neither are some of his teachers. Stay involved with your kid, and you'll be fine. Leave it to the teachers to do, and you'll be asking why your can't read? In the end, it could have been worse, but I will be glad when my time is over here.

I was just wondering why the test scores haven't been updated. It says you are using the test scores from 2012 - 2011. The 2011-2012 data has been in for some time and Maryland is now using a new system to analyze certain schools, identifying schools as a strand 1 to strand 5. (1 being the best and 5 being the worst, requiring intervention). Indian Head is currently a strand 2 school, which is the top 50% in the state.

My son attends Indian Head Elementary School and my daughter will start kindergarden there next month. There is an active PTO and the school has lots of fun activities for children and families. It s easy to contact teachers to request conferences and I ve felt that my son s teachers have genuinely had an interest in him succeeding! There are pretty cool extra curricular activities like the math team and an awesome jr. robotics team for younger kids! Parents are also welcome to volunteer!

My child has attended this school for sometime and I think it's great. Administration, as well as teachers, have worked to pull out the best in my child. The school offers challenging programs, great extra curricular activities (Math Team, DI, MESA) and lots of after school events for parents and children to attend together (Math Night, Family Fitness) that are both fun and educational. As a parent, I am given many opportunities to volunteer and be apart of my child's learning. The school has so many technology resources that they have the ability to reach all types of learners. When I had an issue with my child's teacher, the Principal was always available to meet with me and to understand my feelings about what was going on. I was offered guidance that allowed me to not offend or make the teacher feel attacked, but to get the results needed for my child. They have a very active PTO that sponsors events and drives that teaches my child, and reminds me, to be more civic minded. AWESOME SCHOOL!!

There are no walls and no doors on the the vast majority of the classrooms, making it a very noisy environment for learning. The classrooms are small under-equipped and overcrowded. My son's assigned seat this year is right *behind* the overhead projector. I have mentioned that they current layout of the classroom obstructs the view of 4 students, and I suggested an improved layout. The classroom teacher has still not corrected this significant impediment to learning. The Principal is not on top of her responsibilities and relies on parents to reveal the most efficient way to ensure the safety and orderliness of school. My son has been bullied, targeted, harrassed and is scared to attend that school. Office staff and teachers are rude, untruthful and do not appropriately respond to parent concerns.

the school feels like a prison, no solid walls that divied the class rooms, no doors or windows, This is a tremondous distraction as you can hear other classes going on. We have been lucky to have excellent teachers, Loved Ms Pounds for my daughter when she was in 5th grade, and my son loved Ms Heard for 1st and Miss T Davis for 2nd. My husband is military but I am glad we are moving soon! Not a very good learning enviroment when all you hear is teachers yelling at unrulely students and everyday lessons of other classes
