I will be switching schools to a completely different district due to the poor communication from the principal and lack of care from the support staff. My son had a kindergarten teacher that did not know what they were doing, his first grade teacher was amazing, and due to virtually no communication I am unsure about his second grade teacher. I contacted the principal about prior bullying issues and all I received were excuses about their 'recess attendants,' and a promise to contact me within 4 days, that was roughly two weeks ago! I was not surprised to hear that numerous students have transferred to different schools. Although the principal had a very compassionate attitude about the situation, I feel that this is as far as it goes. Situations are not dealt with in a timely manner, if at all, and my child now feels discouraged about going to school and going out side for recess! Teachers overall are great, administrative and 'support' staff not so much! I have also called numerous times, only to be directly rerouted to the answering machine! I then walk into the school to find the attending secretary on their phone, with a less than enthusiastic attitude!

Having 2 daughters that went though Alward, I feel that overall the teachers are VERY good. The staff on the other hand leaves a lot to be desired. From the principal on down they are aloof and arrogant. Dealing with a bullying incident, the principal said there was no bullying at his school. OOPs the girl in question, now in high school, came to our house with her parents to apologize for the bullying when they attended Alward. Guess the principal was WRONG. There are also different standards, your child cannot pick a teacher, or change classes unless of course you know someone on staff, then its fine, you can do what you like. Once again, the teachers on the whole are very very good, and most are caring, it's the administration that you cannot deal with, they are above you.
