We loved being a part of the Joy School for my daughter's 4th and 5th grade years. Coming in behind because of her struggles with dyslexia, she lacked confidence in her work. After two years of education here, she was ready to transition out to a private middle school nearby. This child I see today has an excitement about learning that I didn't think was possible. She learned so many ways to advocate for herself, speak up when unsure and use tools that aid in her education. We were truly blessed to be a part of this community and are thankful our daughter grew in so many ways!

the Joy School is a very unique environment for kids to grow through understanding, appreciating and adapting to their own individual learning differences. We found that our kids really benefited from the outstanding teachers and staff and their unique training. The instructors are master teachers with extensive track records who are experts in their field and working in an environment that really appreciates and supports them in their quest. I would recommend TJS to all parents of children where a traditional school enviroment is not the answer.

Our son attended the Joy School from 1st grade through 8th grade, and it changed his life and ours! Having severe ADD coupled with anxiety disorder, he was unable to attend our public schools as they were not able to provide the additional assistance he needed. The Joy School has excellent teachers that specialize in learning differences and providing a comfortable, supportive setting for kids so they can thrive. We would HIGHLY recommend this school if your child has a learning disability or learning differences.

Our grandchild had significant reading challenges as a 5 yr old that threatened his confidence and self-esteem. The caring and talented teachers at TJS restored both and essentially gave him his happiness back. Today he is a happy, well-adjusted and responsible 24 yr old.

I used to be a student at the Joy School and was enrolled there for 2 years. The Joy School only has a limit for what they provide, such as helping with dyslexia, dyscalculia, etc. I struggled with other things which was too much for them to handle. From my experience most of the teachers were very inexperienced, however there were a few good ones.

My daughter attended The Joy School summer school program due to struggling in math at her mainstream school. We are still seeing the amazing impact after a full semester back in her home school. Not only is she so much more confident in herself as a learner, but she made so much academic progress in such a short amount of time. The most surprising part is she is still talking about how much fun she had and planning her summer camp schedule around going back again this year.

The Joy School changed my family's life in the best way. My son could not keep up with the work in his prior school due to learning differences, and his confidence was destroyed. He would cry every night and beg us not to make him go to school. I was losing my son, and he truly believed that he was stupid and would never be able to catch up. From the first day at TJS, his attitude started to change. He quickly began to realize that he just learned differently, and his confidence began to build. Soon he was telling me that he didn't need any help with his homework, and he started jumping out of the car every morning, excited to see his friends and to learn. He has been at TJS for three years now, and his testing is indicating that he is ready to mainstream. Because of the skills he has learned at TJS, he feels confident that he can succeed in a normal classroom environment. TJS gave us our spunky boy back, and we are so grateful!

TJS has been a game changer not only for our son(which has been an amazing experience), but also our entire family.I cant say enough good things about TJS, the key takeaway is that they are the absolute best at what they do, and the only way to fully understand is to come and experience it for yourself.

The Joy School is a such an important piece of the educational landscape in Houston and an exemplary school for educating kids with learning differences. I encourage you to take a tour and see for yourself. Kids are engaged and you can see Joy in the classroom and everywhere you go on campus.

The Joy School (TJS) is a beacon of hope and excellence in the realm of education, catering to children from kindergarten through 8th grade and catering primarily to kids with learning differences. From its commitment to treating each child as a unique individual to its small class sizes and exceptional social and emotional development programs, TJS sets the standard for inclusive education. One of the most striking aspects of TJS is its unwavering dedication to recognizing and celebrating the individuality of each student. Unlike traditional education settings, TJS understands that one size does not fit all. By far, the most impressive thing about TJS are the intangibles- the teachers and staff and the way they truly love each and every kiddo.

The staff and faculty at The Joy School really know our children. Each child has an educational and therapeutic team assembled as necessary to meet the child’s needs. Our son has blossomed here over the last 5 years and wants remain here until he finishes Middle School. He is in an environment where he is learning and is genuinely cared for which eases our minds greatly as parents. The small classrooms are ideal for children with learning issues as those issues are identified and addresses. Joy School children leave being able to advocate for themselves as they know their own learning styles and what accommodations they must have to succeed at their next school.

Our son has attended The Joy School since he was in second grade. We sought out the Joy School because he had experienced a tough time fitting in and keeping up with classwork at his old school. Joy School offered a safe space for him to grow, thrive, and catch up to his peers. The small class sizes really benefit him, as has the ability for pull-outs for one-on-one instruction during the school day in those areas where he has needed extra help. In addition to the academic support, we've been particularly impressed with the specialized attention to the students' social and emotional development. The deans' ongoing parent education (and pep talks) on adolescent and tween social and emotional development has been invaluable. We've watched our son develop the confidence to challenge himself to stretch outside of his comfort zone, to travel the world on his own, and to volunteer and act as a leader for other students. We will be sad to leave this special place that means so much to our family. It's been an honor to have so many people (deans, faculty, and every single person on staff) truly dedicated to nurturing and encouraging our child.

I have 2 boys at The Joy School. The experience for our family has been amazing. Our older son entered 3 years ago after languishing in public school, which obviously couldn't meet his needs. This is the 2nd year for our younger son. They both entered The Joy School way behind when compared to their peers, and have made incredible progress. I credit this progress to the individual attention given to each child in order to meet their learning differences and teach them skills to overcome the barriers they face. The Joy School is truly an amazing place with an incredible staff dedicated to educating young minds who approach the world differently.

The Joy School provides a significantly different experience for their students and families. The entire staff collaborates to provide children a supportive environment in which to grow, develop self advocacy and accountability so the child can also own and lead their learning process. They accommodate areas of excellence in addition to providing support in the areas that need it. Most of all, children learn about their strengths and challenges in a positive environment so as to build their self-esteem. Our time at the school has shown us an amazing team of talented teachers, caring staff resulting in an impactful, positive experience for our children.

It is hard to put into words how much The Joy School means to our family. Our son started in Kindergarten last year, and it has not only changed his life but ours as well. He now loves going to school, his teachers have been beyond incredible, and the amount of additional support he receives during school hours has been such a game changer. We sought out TJS to support our son in a learning environment that would best suit his needs. In a class of 6, not only does this help his anxiety immensely, it also gives him the attention necessary to address his precursors for Dyslexia as we navigate the journey of reading. We are consistently in awe of his success. I felt lost before we became part of TJS family and couldn't feel happier or more confident that he is exactly where he needs to be.

I would give the school 3.5 stars if I could. I went to this school from 3rd grade all the way to 8th (because that’s their highest grade they go to) and I was disappointed on how my last year went. With how much money my parents spent on this school it wasn’t worth it. They did little to prepare me for high school. Not only that but so many great teachers have left and many of the bad ones stayed behind.
