I am a parent of two children at this school. One is doing JI and the other is at Gen Ed and has a learning disability. Both children have excellent teachers, and we get great support. This school is very welcoming, from the front desk to the Principal and Vice Principal, to all the staff. The PTA is extremely engaged, and we have wonderful events planned for every season. Both kids are challenged appropriately. Our child with special needs is getting the right support for her to thrive. The school has a private school feeling, we really could not ask for a better learning environment for our children.

Horrible school! Teachers and the principal do not care about the well being of children. The principal does not believe in collaboration and is not welcoming to Asian parents who are not Japanese.

I have two kids at Fox Mill and we could not have asked for a better school, administrator, and teachers. Both children are thriving. The parents are extremely involved and care about the success of the whole student body. We could not have asked for a better school.

Terrible. Assistant principal yells at first graders and second graders and the principal doesn’t even correct or take action. They just don’t care and pretend to be working but at the end of the day it is obvious that they are not good school. Save yourself some stress and go elsewhere if you care about your child. JI is jits rubbish where only Japanese kids thrive as these Japanese teachers hardly know English and teach math only in japanese.

As a family we have experienced 3 elementary schools in Fairfax and Loudoun counties. Fox mill was a total gem. The culture of the school was special- very family-like. The school is strong both academically and extra-curricular wise. Parents are very involved and the teachers and other staff are top-notch.

Sorry guys, this are my true feelings, if you are an immigrant this school is not for you. Lacks proper leadership. My kids teacher was a Psycho. Kids in this school are not treated equal. If you need nurturing environment for your kid, Please go some where else.

Moved here last school year and my child was placed with what everyone said was an "excellent" teacher. We found the teacher, in reality, to be burnt out and very old school strict. When I volunteered on one occasion, I witnessed the teacher berating a child and yelling at her for a minor infraction. If the teacher was willing to do that in front of a parent I am afraid of what was going on without parents around. I find many people cheer leading for this school and it is an okay school, I'd call it average, and I wonder if the hip-hip hoorays are more to make themselves feel better? Our first interaction with the PTA was a scathing email from the new PTA president to an innocent membership dues question. The president didn't have time for questions and had no interest in being helpful. Went to one PTA meeting and was appalled by the number of parents moaning and complaining endlessly about ridiculous things such as why they couldn't personally have a goodbye session with a principal who had left unexpectedly. On the upside, yes there is one, there are a plethora of after school activities, the kids do seem excited about Fox Mill, the office staff is kind, the school seems well maintained and it is definitely a small community school (very few bused students). They do have a Japanese Immersion program and are very committed to it. If that's not the way you choose to go, however, it does seem like it could be a sad and lonely path...no pressure.

Fox Mill Elementary is a top notch school on the border of one of the busiest cities in the country. It has hard working, positive minded, dedicated staff and administration. The students hail from a family centered community along with others pulled from across the county to participate in it's renowned Japanese Immersion program.

Fox Mill Elementary is a fabulous school with involved parents, caring teachers, and a proactive administration. The active PTA hosts many fun and creative fundraising activities through the year including The Son Challenge, Daughter Dance, Bingo night, and even a big Matsuri, Japanese festival. Our teachers go the distance. I went in last week for a parent-teacher conference and was really impressed how prepared the teachers were to talk with me and how well they understood my child. They are also involved outside of school hours - my sons teacher spent a Saturday afternoon with her students so they could sing at a Cherry Blossom festival and also volunteers with a running club after school. The Principal is great too - a group of parents suggested starting a cultural exchange school in Japan and our Principal has been out-in-front making every effort to get this going!

This is a great school with a wonderful supportive community. Your children will receive a great education at this school, whether you choose the Japanese Immersion program or the general track. Great teachers, strong principals and a caring community

Amazing Japanese Immersion program. My kids get to learn another language at the same time as they learn math and science. Unique and very worthwhile program.

Fox Mill is a great school... it's a warm, fun, safe atmosphere for the kids to learn. Lots of great opportunities to get involved in the classroom and the PTA, which has a great relationship with the school staff.

Great new principal who is bringing in fresh ideas. Dedicated staff. Very engaged parent volunteers who provide so many opportunities for students, both academic and social.

The best asset of Fox Mill is its community... from dedicated staff and teachers to parent volunteers. Although the school building is old, when entering the school, you can immediately tell that it is well maintained and a reflection of the engaged student body. The principal and teachers are always working to engage students in actual learning and exploration that goes beyond just memorizing facts.

They preach "academic rigor"...but do little to impress with teaching style. If your child's learning style differs from a teachers teaching style, you could be in for a LONG year. Not sure the teacher can, or has attempted to engage our daughters learning style, or many others in the class. We have had similar discussions of difficultly from other parents from the classroom. Biggest issue though it our child has apparently been "recommended" to the School Counselor for lack of focus (5 yr old)...We have yet to hear from ANYONE in the school about it...Our 5 yr old told us. WE asked the teacher (instead of being called or emailed), and we were told the counselor "is supposed to contact you". Been waiting for over a month. Far too much focus on the "Japanese Immersion program" from the administration with very little if any focus on the American Education program. They preach about how great the Japanese Immersion Program is...What about those students not in the Japanese Immersion program? So what I guess? Too bad so sad? Thats how we feel. We are thinking about sending our son to a different school.

We love the Japanese immersion program and my kids really like school. Most of the kids that attend Fox Mill are high achievers and generally do pretty well academically. I'm not sure this would be the best school for kids that struggle with minor disabilities and difficulty learning, but it's perfect for parents who want their kids in a more rigorously academic environment. We've had very caring and competent teachers with the exception of one that was unusually strict. The expectations were a little too high with her, but the rest balance learning with warmth, understanding, and support really well and the amount of parent involvement is impressive.
