Breakthrough is an awesome community school that is full of students from a variety of cultures. Each student learning needs are met and adapted to how they learn. We love Breakthrough and travel from Bristol to go to this special school.

We had an awful experience at Breakthrough. My son was bullied since the beginning of the school year and the problem was never solved. I left several messages to the director and social worker with no answer. The only time they returned my calls, was when my son missed school for a few days for a family function. The trip was planned ahead, we sent e-mails to the school and my son discussed it with each and every teacher. His bully is still in the school and harasses my son best friend everyday. We switch him to a different school and he can't be happier.

I have been a staff member at Breakthrough for 6 years, and my 8-year-old twins have attended since they were 3. As our fearless leader, Mrs. Norma Neumann-Johnson says, Breakthrough is "nirvana." Working at this school is a dream, and my children are getting an amazing, enriching, multicultural education. Our magnet theme is character, which is not just an "aside" but truly impacts everything at our school, from family-style meals in the classrooms to the way parents and staff members talk to students. Breakthrough is truly a family, and I can't think of any better school I would want my children to attend. We live in Bristol, but choose to bring our twins to Hartford everyday. Believe me, its worth every minute we spend in the car. From weekly Community Meetings to Mindfulness (mind-based stress reduction), from Multi-cultural luncheons to S.O.S. (Show Our Stuff Celebration), from our student-run coffee shop and school store to our BMS News (student-run news program), from our middle school theme "Discover Your Talents, Change the World" to our Montessori-based PreK program...this small, community school has it ALL! Come visit...Visitor's Day is every Friday morning!!!

I was a former student from Breakthrough, back when it was Breakthrough Charter School...it was truly a second home to me. Through highschool and college I never had teachers so dedicated to their students as the ones I had at Breakthrough. I was part of the first 8th grade class to graduate in 2002 and today I am a mechanical engineer in the aerospace industry. With that said, I hold Breakthrough responsible for my success because I left Breakthrough with not only the core academic fundamentals but also with the right attitude as an individual to face soceity (and stand up to it if necessary) in a very respectful manner, with a constant reminder to not to forget my HA HA SO strategies :)
