This school is terrible... I ended up homeschooling my kids. My daughter was able to walk off campus and NO ONE... not the staff or teacher noticed she was gone! I had to call and tell them and then they blamed her for escaping since "she should have known better"... absolutley appauling! Try doing your job! Their incompetence put her in danger! There is a culture of separating kids by cliche/class and forcing kids to sit at a certain table at lunch instead of choosing who they can sit by. There was also a lot of sexual harassment from the male students and the girls were afraid to go out to recess. If you love your kids DO NOT SEND THEM TO HAPPY CAMP ELEMENTARY!! They are not the staff's own children so while their children benefit your kid will fail. Your kid is just a paycheck and funding for the school and thats it. Homeschooling is the way to go if you have elementary/middle school children and want to move to Happy Camp.

I have been very impressed with what the school is able to do with minimal funding and with the difficulties of getting qualified teachers.

This used to be a school with qualified employees. Now there is 1 teacher with a clear teaching credential. Employees do whatever they want. No one is looking out for the best interest of the students. The school scores below in ALL testing areas but somehow many students have 4.0?? Teachers need to do their jobs and teach!! Not pleasing parents with report cards. No one is benefiting and when students get older they are not prepared to actually do the work!

The new Principal is doing a great job. I was in the office reading about new instructional norms for teachers to follow which is holding teachers acc o accountable. He has implemented a new reading program for the younger kids and they are focusing much more on basicathletes skills. He is very good on communicating with parents and seems to be trying to work with the Karuk Tribe . I like the direction he is moving the school.

Almost all classes are spilt into two different grades with one teacher. Several kids who need discipline while other kids suffer lack of involvement from staff because staff is constantly dealing with misbehaving kids. School structure and playground are good. The after school program called rockets it awesome and the girl in charge of the program is great. A few teachers at the school are really great. I think if staff wasn't constantly dealing with kids who are repeat trouble makers and had more time for children who are there to learn would be good. Also if they hired enough staff for one teacher for each grade would be a big improvement. I don't see how it's a positive learning environment when one teacher is having to teach two different maths, two different englishs, etc.
