Current Parent (5 years) My child loves HH. He finds the faculty easy to engage and knowledgeable. He is seen and heard on campus . There is an academic rigor coupled with activities to advance the human race … kindness, compassion, celebrating each student’s unique contribution to the school community. The school seeks families to build a positive school community. The small classes, individualized attention give kids a lot of space to emotional and academic growth. Worth every penny . Don’t be afraid of the sticker price . Apply!

Reading the last two reviews, I'm surprised we are discussing the same school. I have 2 children that started at HH two years ago and cannot be more pleased with the support we have received. We had a rough transition from another town and the HH teachers helped our children engage with new friends as well as continuing to support their academic progress. One of my kids is a straight A student but not without challenges and has always felt the teachers were accessible for support. I also find with the social environment we are currently in, the school does a very nice job navigating so as not to steer students politically one way or the other. They actually do an amazing job helping students think critically and come to their own opinions. Not many schools can do that now. They've managed to navigate through Covid wonderfully, kept schools open with a cohort strategy. And no, we are not a trust fund family with large donations to the school. :-)

This school has a joke of an administration that cares more about making money and raising tuition than it does about the well being of their students. I have seen countless students unsupported and dismissed by the administration, rather taking unnecessary disciplinary routes rather than listening to a student's perspective. This school does not prepare a student for the real world, and sending your child to this school is an AWFUL idea unless you want them unhappy. Teachers are also highly disrespectful, looking back at my high school experience I have never had school officials be so disrespectful to me in my life. For example, I was once told that I should care about bettering prison life for prisoners because that is where I will grow up.

When looking at Hamden Hall academically, it is a very strong school. With a multitude of challenging and exciting courses, Hamden Hall allows students with a true passion for education to pursue this passion to the fullest extent. But underneath Hamden Hall’s academic glory lies a sad truth: a vapid and oppressive school culture. Hamden Hall promotes a very clear political agenda at its school. Whether it be through treatment by teachers or assemblies with opinion-based messages, Hamden Hall will expect you to accept a certain set of values that you may not agree with. And I do not mean their core values of excellence, support, participation, accountability, and respect. I am referring to clear political values that you should be able to choose for yourself. And yes, obviously you always have a choice in a literal sense, but certain members of the faculty will discourage you from forming certain opinions and will not protect your freedom of thought. In my time at Hamden Hall, this behavior has intensified over the years, and I feel that I must at least inform others what they are getting into when joining the Hamden Hall community. I hope that Hamden Hall will fix this behavior in the coming years, but from what I’ve seen, it doesn’t seem like this will happen. Hamden Hall should provide students with knowledge that they can interpret themselves and use toward their political opinions however they see fit. Despite Hamden Hall’s shortcomings, I will not say Hamden Hall is terrible or that I regret being there. I made good friends and received a higher level of education than the average student. I even had some great teachers that gave me insight into various concepts of the world and didn’t force opinions on me. I wish I didn’t have to see such a academically strong school stray farther and farther from the model of a progressive community. With that being said, I wish the faculty at Hamden Hall the best, and I will always be grateful for the knowledge and skills I obtained during my high school years.

Best of the best. The school nurtures the whole student. Classes are small and the weekly advisor/ advisee meetings ensure that each student has several adults that genuinely care about his or her success.

My experience is not good. I regret the years spent in the school hoping it will get better which it did not.

I am very happy that I decided to send my daughter to middle school at Hamden Hall. The school has exceeded my expectations. My daughter has become more independent and has really blossomed.

I have had a wonderful experience at Hamden Hall for both of my sons. They are very different and Hamden Hall has been great at bringing out the best in them. They both got a strong foundation in the Lower School, navigated through the challenging Middle School years, and thrived in the Upper School. I am thrilled with the variety and quality of high level academic choices. The athletic program has been great as well. I really like the advisory system. Both of my boys made strong connections with teachers and they became valuable mentors for them. I would highly recommend Hamden Hall to anyone looking for a safe, caring environment for their children.

I simply love the education my daughter is receiving. Studying Chinese, art, music. Strong academics, physical education...plenty of one on one attention. She is in 1st grade and I am very happy she is in such a wonderful and warm environment.
