I am a mother of 2 kids who attend Commodore Perry School since the beginning of a school year 2021-22. I am very happy with the school. Both my kids receive attention they need and they are always very happy to get on the bus in the morning to start new day. We have moved from another country and we were worried about the transition, language barrier and had so many questions that were always answered and handled by professional school management. Kids feel like home at school and they never felt as outsiders, in fact they have received great care from teachers and their peers.

This high school has been a complete failure and waste of time for my child. While there are a few truly professional and compassionate educators/coaches, there are just as many who lack the desire to see their students succeed. Small town - home grown favoritism is at it's finest at this small-minded institution. They lack the ability to promote or endorse any child raised from outside their tight inbred community. The foreign language program and teacher are particular failures. The whole foreign language program is a fake. It doesn't exist but on paper. The students have a marginal first year at Spanish I as well as French I, and all other years (French and Spanish II, III, and IV) are independent study (doing worksheets and vocabulary in the back of the 1st year class on the students own time). The teacher lacks the necessary competencies in the foreign languages to produce the desired result: a capable Spanish / French student. This district grossly inflates grades at the high school. Last year, approximately a third of my child's class had above a 4.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). Upon discussion with the superintendent and principal, they stated that "...It must truly be an exceptional class..." When a fourth of an entire grade has above a 4.25, and a third of an entire grade has above a 4.00, all grades must be scrutinized because the district is failing the students and cheating with inflation of grades. SAT scores are particularly low from this school, requiring you to send your child to additional tutoring/courses if you desire a higher than average SAT score. I recommend comparing other schools in the area before you decide to enroll your child in this high school. It has been a sad marginal experience for our family. This school has NOT earned my endorsement and in my view is very likely the worst school my child has ever attended. Several EXC teachers here, but they are outshined by terrible ones. ZERO leadership from the HS office, but man it looks great on paper...

My family and I moved into this district, and I can honestly say I don't recommend this school to anybody. From day one, my daughter was bullied by both girls AND boys. She has called me numerous times from the bathroom, crying, asking me to come pick her up due to being bullied. I've had multiple meetings with the principal, and the bullying continued. Many teachers have asked my daughter what was going on due to hearing rumors, and once they heard about how she was getting bullied and by who, they sat back and never reported it or did anything about it. However, there are 2 teachers who stood by my daughter and helped, but otherwise, the staff DOES NOT take bullying serious by any means. I regret sending my daughter to this school. There's no reason she should've been bullied all year, in result of the administration not doing anything about it when they knew exactly what was going on. This school has a problem with "cliques'. I know there have been students in the past who have been removed from the school by their parents due to bullying also. I don't respect this school at all, and I strongly would NOT recommend it to any parent looking to send their child to a new school

I find that CP does offer a great educational system. I do however think that if a parent decides to not get involved due to drama that exists at the school that is their right to do so. Other parents shouldn't get on here and run those other parents down. That proves the point that these folks have way too much time on their hands. The good people choose to keep a low profile and nothing is wrong with that. We have a couple bad classes at that school that I am sure the teachers can't wait to get through there. Then we have some really good classes up there. Depends what kind of kids and parents you get put with. If you have a bad class then you stay away from the drama simple as that. The teachers are great and so I think all and all it's a good school. I was told from a teacher that you have to rise above some of the behavior of the parents and to do that you stay away. If someone in their 30's & 40's don't understand proper behavior then you can't reach that person or person's you just move on.

I have had two sons go through the CP School system and we are not one of the "generational famlies". Our experience has been good, I like the small school because no one falls through the cracks. The student -teacher ratio makes for a personal learning experience. Bullying is taken very seriously and building security is in place. Parents need to be involved, it doesn't have to be money. Every activity needs volunteers and if you make the effort to engage your child in some sort of extra curricular activity you and your child will make lasting friends. Try to bond with other parents and that will show your child how to do the same. CP has consistently high scores on state mandated testing. Better than many other schools around us. I am proud of each and every child there. Your reality is what you make it, change your mind and it will change your life. Try it sometime!

Commodore perry has all12 grades and kindergarden in one location and in one building. It is a rural area that has 3 small boros, and 5 townships that cover a large area. Our state wants to close schools and consolidate into other schools because of declining enrollment and to cut costs. We have accelerated declining enrollment caused by some few people that want to be in control. The make new residents feel unwelcome and especially if they think someone new might want to participate in school activity.s. The gang together telling untrue storys and lies and put them down. People are taking thier children out of cP and sending them to other schools. I hate to see CP get closed down sooner because of that. The children are spending too much time on the schoolbus now. I.

I am also a parent of a junior high student. What I would say to sum it up is we have children rasing children. I had witnessed first hand what happened to a parent and student a couple years ago. I was totally ashamed of our community. I just wish it was so true that we had such a welcoming community. I felt embarrassment & shame that as a community we were able to hurt a family like that. So I would take a good long look in the mirror before we pat ourselves on the back. I hope this family is doing well now. Many times I have wanted to call them and tell them that not all of us think the way some do and I am sorry that happened to them.

I am someone who has 2 kids in this school district and let me tell you I was surprised by the negative comments. The negative comments were written by the same person. The academics are great, small school, small classes and the community as a whole pulls together for those in need or who have had tragedies. The PTO as a whole is great with many members who volunteer their time making it possible for elementary students to go on AWESOME field trips every year. I would definately recommend this school and the friendly environment it offers to kids and parents.

I am someone who has MOVED into the district and have not found the "cliquiness" the previous posters have stated. I am highly offended by some of the comments below stating if you are a whitecollar - to me that shows the attitude that may have caused the dislike towards those reviewers. I have found keeping an open mind works wonders. Yes, CP is a Title 1 school, but that does not make it a bad school. It only means the economics of the area aren't the greatest. For a small school, they are one of the top performers in the county - above Grove City and the local private schools. You get what you put forth :)

I feel confident in the academics but the social behavior of some of the parents leaves a lot to be desired. My daughter was bullied by a parents/classmates to the point we had to remove her to be placed in a private school. As the previous comment suggests that these families have been here for generations doesn't excuse the improper behavior. I feel this school is not offering a good social development of the students. The children only live what they learn from the parents. A whitecollor professional should stay out of this school district if possible,Grove City may be a good fit because you have the college with an abundant amount of educated proffestionals.Hermitage would also be a choice like the previous comment suggested.Personally I'd pick Cranberry if had to do it all over again.Just a thought to save your investment in home values and good environ. for your child.
