We recently moved to the State and the City. As a former teacher for 12 years, I know understanding what teaching involves and how challenging it is. I always give the teachers and administrators the benefit of the doubt. My daughter, who has ADD/ADHD started attending school this year and her first semester she did very poorly. We blamed he mostly because since we were knew, I didn't monitor. The disappointing thing is that only one teacher contacted us about her grades. One I contacted, basically told me she just graded their assignments/tests and gave input there. There is hardly no communication between school and home. Zero, except when they miss school (this means money lost for the district). If the teachers are not motivated, administration doesn't care why should students care? Having worked in almost all Title 1 Schools this was not the case with me or with the schools I worked. Very disappointed about the state of our educational system. My daughter has done well the second semester. Unfortunately, this is the only Jr. High School here so but I will consider a private school next year.

Foster kid went from A-B student in Putnam to D student at Guthrie Jr High. There is 100% reliance on the app they use. If you don't reach out to them, the principle confirmed that they won't reach out to you and will allow your student to struggle and potentially fail. When I mentioned he had 3 D's, the principle was quick to remind me that a D was passing and made it seem as if that's an acceptable grade.

I have two daughters that have been through the Junior High and I am completely satisfied with everything! Loved the teachers and my daughters still talk about how those teachers prepared them for high school.

My husband and I moved away from Guthrie because of a job related transfer 6 years ago and now we are back. I cannot tell you how happy we are to be back. This town has it all and the school district is one of it's greatest assets! My daughter went from kindergarten to her 11th grade year as a proud Guthrie Blue Jay. She is now in Switzerland just finishing her Masters degree with honors at 24. I am grateful to the incredible teachers, counselors, and administrators that pushed her to see her potential and the success she has obtained for such a young age. Guthrie is such a hidden treasure in our state!
