  Having watched my brother attend their 11 years prior to my son, I have seen a vast improvement in the leadership style of Mr. Mayfield. It has been a good experience overall despite COVID. There is definitely and sense of family but also an environment where teachers will challenge students to be better not just in grades but as citizens who will be agents of change. I've only become unhappy with teaching/learning styles with the school due to the pandemic. Quite a few teachers were not able to adapt quickly enough nor were they able to be flexible enough to roll with the challenges to teach or think outside of the box to reach students. Outside of this, I have been very pleased and would recommend

  Great magnet and Governor's School program! Proficient teachers and a healthy student body atmosphere. My child loves it there. This was not her zoned school and she adapted very well.

  If your child is smart, motivated & well-behaved, J.L. Mann is a wonderful school. My son graduated from Mann, received a full scholarship to an excellent college & is now attending an excellent graduate school. However, if your child is a discipline problem or can't keep up with the curriculum, you probably won't care for this school
