Providence Academy is full of truly wonderful people, unfortunately they are still full of nonsense politics that ostracized my family and I.My son suffered a nearly fatal head blow caused by a Bully during recess when my son was slammed into concrete. We never took this to the police or the media because we hoped Providence would make things right. The Headmaster tried to investigate the matter but most kids were either too scared or simply did not want to talk. The matter sat for three months when I finally reached out to the Board. The Board President basically told us "best of luck at your next school." I guess a medical bill of $2070 is worth more to this school than the loss of $12,000 for my two children.If the school refuses to accept responsibility for an incident that nearly killed my son, we will have nothing to do with this school.

Providence does an amazing job of emphasizing growth in character and virtue within their students while keeping to a rigorous academic standard. Students who graduate from Providence are critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, and prepared to lead even if it is unpopular.

Almost no certified teachers. The only benefit offered to their teachers is free tuition for their own kids, so most of the teachers are other parents. They're not trained in classroom management, they don't necessarily have any secondary education (at all!), and they Give lots of homework (even Latin how fancy!) in order to fool parents into thinking the kids are being well-educated. Substitute teachers are, you guessed it, other parents...they send out an email to all the families in that classroom looking for help if the main parent has to be out. The kids train all year for open house events and demonstrations designed to impress perspective parents (and to convince current families they're getting their $$$$ worth), but these demos don't actually reflect true learning. For example, 2nd graders practice some sort of rhyme about how to diagram a sentence, but the children are not actually trained on sentence structure, parts of a sentence, or any surrounding context at all. They may know the terms "subject" and "predicate" and how to draw one specifically practiced sentence in a diagram, but they do not understand grammar or usage. This lack of thorough education, lack of qualified educators, and overall trying-to-be-classical-but-actually-charging-an-arm-and-a-leg for other parents to teach my own kids A Beka-level curriculum is just so not worth it to me. My son was reading by the time he was in kindergarten (so yes, he was on the early side), and all year long all the teacher had him do was letter of the day activities. Towards the end, I had to in fact supplement her with my own resources, which I paid for.The teachers don't understand (and aren't trained) how to accommodate or support academically advanced students. They have one curriculum they teach from, a hodge podge "staff" of parents who are at varying levels of abilities and enthusiasm. I will say that they do have a lot of fundraising opportunities available to help offset the exorbitant prices, if begging all of your friends and family for money for coffee, Christmas wreaths, and admission to sub par theater productions is your idea of a good time. Overall, if you can afford this school you can afford St. John's or Notre Dame, and you'll have much more qualified teachers and many more academic opportunities. Please be very very careful about the smoke and mirrors of the terms "classical" and "Christian" and ask hard questions about how qualified these so-called educators are.

Providence truly lives up to the high standards it sets for itself as a classical Christian school. They accomplish what they set out to do by offering tremendous value with an excellent curriculum and a low student to teacher ratio. They have created a serious learning environment that engages families, encourages critical thinking, and provides character-building discipline while reinforcing Christ-centered faith on a daily basis.
