This school is so bad I actually moved. The school did not support my kids emotionally as they were black in an all white school. I have three kiddos around the same age, and each of them struggled once out of Kindergarten. When I tried to talk to the teacher about my concerns with identity and race, I was told that they were too young to know about race. I was absurd. I gave specific examples where kids presented with racist statements and all were deflected. I then noticed that my kids became "behavioral problems" I was frequently called home from work to pick them up for behavior issues, and when I would arrive they would be in a separate room playing games. When I pointed that if my child displayed behavior issues why would they be allowed to play a game while waiting for me. Then as I started to push back and try to understand why my well behaved kid at home could not behave at school it became about me and my parenting. To the extreme they called DHS on us three time, each time resulting in DHS confused and wanting to know what promoted the calls. When they tried to diagnose my kiddos with emotional disturbance I was done. I wrote a letter of decent, and was told either I accept the diagnosis or he would be removed from school, I started to look for new housing. Once I moved with in 6 months my kids were no longer on IEPs and did not need any in class room supports. They are also honor roll students in high school now. I am so traumatized by this experience that I am afraid to move to a new town as I have a four year old who has already acclimated into preschool here with no issues or concerns outside of normal learning progression.

My daughter constantly comes home with schoolwork that has incorrect answers that not only haven't been corrected, but have been marked right with stars and stickers at the top of the page. It's so frustrating to me that I've complained to my husband so much that today my child noticed one of her mistakes (again, not corrected) and said her teacher "must really be done for the year." I wholeheartedly agree and cannot wait to get her out of that school. They seem to place more emphasis on planning fun activities than teaching students and it's truly sad to see how little my daughter learned compared to last year in another district. Shame on Russell School.

This school does NOT handle kids with special needs or learning disabilities well. They claim they don't have the resources. Staff is pleasant but can be hard to communicate with. The transportation dept has been awful. Really hoping things will get better for my child.
