I am the principal of Conway. While I do not believe in this site and other sites like this (they leave a major part of the story out of their rating systems), I feel compelled to place a comment here. This data is incredibly misleading and does not in anyway tell the true story of our overall data picture, the incredible strengths of our kiddos, and the amazing abilities of our teachers. We are fully accredited with VDOE and we continue to make progress each year. Sure we have things to work on and we always will. However, the ratings, data, enrollment numbers are significantly incorrect. It is my hope that if you are thinking about coming to Conway, please reach out to me, check out my YouTube channel, check out our website, or just talk to people in our community. I think you will see and hear a very different perspective than is being shared here.

Our daughter went to Conway and now our son goes to Conway. We have wanted to move & sell our home for years but decided it was best to wait until our son completed 5th grade. He is a special needs student and although I cannot fault Conway for the lack of staff and support staff(absolutely the county’s & school board’s responsibility), I do feel at times he’s left floundering. Thankfully other than his kindergarten class, his class sizes have been smaller than others. 17 kids is still a lot. I have also noticed they try to put many of the IEP & 504 plan students in the same classrooms in order to maximize their time with the SPED teacher. My kid gets less than 50% services and has done well at Conway, but I do feel for the overworked and overwhelmed SPED teachers as well as the students who might have to continually be interrupted by a special needs student in class. I have chaperoned field trips and volunteered in the classroom and I see some of the IEP kiddos need an aid with them more often but don’t have one. One student continually interrupted the teacher (who has the patience of a saint). I feel that’s unfair to the other students. Because of the lack of funding from the county and a shortage of SPED teachers & aids, I fear we/my son will be pushed into giving up services as he approaches fifth grade. He’s academically on track with his peers and the fear he’ll fall behind is strong. The administrators at Conway are wonderful. Anytime my daughter or son had to visit the principals office, they were always fair & just. They listen to the kids with empathy and are always respectful when delivering not so great news to the parents. Mr Raybold is the glue that holds it all together. If he leaves, we’re leaving. He’s energetic and excited each day. He is unafraid to tell the students they are loved. Also, there are hundreds of kids that attend Conway and I have witnessed on many occasions Mr Raybold welcome or say hello to each student by their first and sometimes last names. It’s truly amazing. The best AP recently got promoted to another elementary school as a principal, but Mrs Simms was absolutely wonderful and she will be missed. Mrs O is still fairly new but has fit right in with the Conway family. She is definitely better than her predecessor.

Conway is the best elementary school in the area. My 3 kids go to this school and I can see how they improve day by day and thrives. Credit goes to excellent teachers and kind and brave principle, Mr. Raybold.

Our experience has been nothing short of AMAZING! Mr. Raybold is the absolute best. Even with the large population he services, he spends the time to help students and their parents with any concerns or questions they have. He makes a daily effort to make the students feel important and special, and as a parent, it is so very much appreciated. He has surrounded the Conway community with extraordinary staff which allows for a learning environment that fosters all students and their individual needs. We left Conway for a year, and this year we came back because of the experience. It was the best decision we have made for our children. We feel blessed that our children are Cougars!

Conway, as with many others in our area is doing the best with what they have, the problem is they have very little funding and overcrowded classrooms. We left Conway not because of a big incident, but rather a really mediocre experience. We didnt want our children to have a mediocre education. They have some really great teachers, but they give them 25 or 26 students. Way overcrowded, and forget it if you have one or two children who have behavioral issues, the whole class is affected because it eats up the teacher's time and energy. And Stafford public schools are not doing so great on the national stage either. I would suggest seeking alternative schools in the area. We pulled our children and have been very happy with their new school. A class of 14 and two full time teachers for kindergarten.

I think the school has many great and dedicated teachers and staff, the problem is the huge classroom sizes, and the need to teach to the test. My kindergartner was standardized tested, I understand the need to make sure they are making progress, but was really disappointed in our public school systems, this isnt the fault of Conway. I was concerned for my son - he was 5 years old in a classroom of 26 kids one teacher and a part time aid, those are staggering teacher student ratios. We decided to pull our son and find a better learning environment for him (no standardized testing, no teaching to the test and two full time teachers for kindergarden and first grade). We see a clear difference.

I was worried about the large size of Conway when my daughter started kindergarten, but those fears are gone! It is clear Principal Raybold (JR) expects a lot from the teachers, and we have not been disappointed. JR knows each child's name, which is just incredible to me. He sets the example for his school, and each child feels important. We love Conway!

I am extremely confident in Principal Raybold and his staff. I have never met an administration so friendly, respectful and dedicated to my child. My son's teacher keeps me in the loop daily and sends home a summary of the weeks activity every Friday. The PTA is always coming up with neat ideas in terms of fundraising and currently have organized after school enrichment programs. Phone calls are made and emails are sent when necessary, which provides peace of mind. I am proud my son goes to Conway and other parents I speak to have nothing but great things to say about the staff and how the school is run.

Our sons have and do attend Conway. The teachers and staff care deeply about each child in the school and make a phenominal effort to encourage and challenge each student. It's a strong anti-bullying school. The teachers, staff, and students promote and celebrate cultural differences. The PTA is very, very involved, and parents are always welcome to volunteer in the classrooms. It is truely a school community.

An excellent school where both the teachers and the principal seem to genuinely care about all of the children, including my nine year son. Keep up the good work!
