Amazing Elementary School. Our boys have just spent a year here and were pleasantly surprised that it really lives up to its hype. The facilities are quite new and well laid out. The teacher for our boys was outstanding. I cannot recommend Macarthur Elementary school enough.

This school has been wonderful for all three of my children! The teachers are caring and supportive. We had regular contact with my children teachers, through emails, and meetings anytime they were requested or needed! I miss this school and do not believe the negative reviews. I feel those review come from parents who didn't complete more than one year at the school.

I wish I would have listened to my teacher friends when they told me that the level of education was poor in Kansas. Including the school on base. It's not a DOD school. It's a public school with the same mediocre guidelines as others. I'm actually sad about the limited amount of services that are actually offered. It's beautiful. However, beautiful is only the building and not academics or support.

I highly recommend anyone comming to Ft. Leavenworth to consider MacArthur ES. The level of technology, resources, and support available to students and teachers is like nothing I've seen elsewhere. There are Smart Boards in every room, Chromebooks, STEM room, and tech lab to name a few. There is even a nature courtyard. The library is beautiful and well stocked. Every teacher I have encountered is an absolute professional with a caring heart and willing to work as a team with parents. The school is filled with art from every grade and you see something new each time you walk in. The band and choir have several performances a year. There are many clubs to choose from, one is the fitness club. Though there is no PTA or PTO, there is Site Council that meets every month. The Site Council gives parents a direct line to teachers and administrators to discuss ways to improve the school or how they "do" education. All parents are welcome. I have attended several of these meetings and I assure you parents are being heard. The district has adopted the CCSS and makes every effort to communicate with parents to help everyone understand the new standards. Please, consider MacArthur.

I have been disappointed again and again in the overall quality and the leadership in the school. I wish we had considered other schools before we sent our children here.

I absolutely love MacArthur Elementary! I'd heard great things about this school before coming to Ft. Leavenworth, and it definitely has met and exceeded my expectations. The teachers show genuine care and compassion for my children, and I love that I know exactly where my children are academically at all times. My children's teachers (Ms. Silvers and Ms. Irminger) are well organized and they go above and beyond to make sure that I am fully aware of the subject matter being taught in class and various events happening at the school. The principal is A-MAZ-ING! I had one tiny issue last year, and she handled it immediately. As well, she followed up with me several days later to make sure that everything was alright. I love that Ms. Bertram is always present. She truly leads by example and makes it a point to get to know the students and their families personally. The best aspect of MacArthur is hearing all of the exciting stories my children tell me about their fun and exciting lessons they've done in class. I could go on and on about how wonderful MacArthur is but the proof is in the pudding...my kids have flourished at this school and are soaring academically and socially.

My 2nd grader has attended this school for three years. We continue to love the school culture and staff. I find it very hard to believe that any parent would rate this school with only one star. I'm trying to find a way to stay here forever! As with any school, there will always be some "issues" or ways to improve. Sometimes parents are so overwhelmed with their one singular issue that they don't see the big picture. I have worked and volunteered in schools around the world and have a lot to compare to MacArthur ES. The children do get a lot of early release Fridays, but that is only to allow teachers time to meet and reassess student progress (because they do flex for reading and math), that is almost unheard of in most school districts. Drop-off and pick-up in the parking lot has always been a problem but is better than it has been in years due to the Principal and staffs efforts. Parents are actively encouraged to attend SITE Council meetings to discuss school-wide academic and safety issues. I have seen a lot of positive impact from parents getting involved. Bottom line - great school, excellent Principal and one I am proud to send my child to every day!!

Our kids went here for one year and we were pleased with Our experience. The academics is pretty much what I expected. The school has a good music, art, and PE program. These were called "special" classes and the kids went to a different one each day in addition to the library (which is also excellent). The school has access to an amazing amount of technology and kids used them on a daily basis. I agree with the previous review about the principal. She handled a behavioral issue with my kid in a kind and constructive way and included us in decision-making. I've also seen her handle behavioral issues with other kids, especially those with special needs in a firm but kind way. The teachers communicated at least weekly to let us know what the kids were covering the upcoming week. As for recess, there is a short pre-lunch recess and one or two later in the day depending on the schedule. I agree the recesses could be a bit longer. Much of the time is spent lining up in hallways and waiting for other classes to line up, but I guess that's the way in most schools now. Aides and teachers hand out "Excellent Eagle Tickets" as a behavior tool. Earning 25 gives them extra recess.

I am happy with several aspects of MacArthur. I have three children who attend the school and myself NDyQae spouse are more than informed of their academic progress through email with their teachers as well as the ability to see scores on tests, homework and in class assignments through the online grading system. All three teachers are more than willing to a have one on one impromptu meetings as well as the quarterly parent teacher conferences. The principal is a tough individual who holds students to standards but also is kind to the students. The only drawback to the school is that teachers are not allowed to give a student a grade less than a B on their report card. If a student scores below an 80 they must resit the test after being retaught the subject. This continues until the student achieves an 80. Students also can turn assignments in late and still receive passing grades. Although I understand the importance of students grasping the topics of instruction, this grading process does not give me as a parent an accurate gauge of where my children stand at and also gives them a false sense of accomplishment when all three come home with straight A's.

No, actually that review about limited recess is correct. There is a 15 minute recess after lunch and about a five minute one before lunch. Sadly I think it is you who needs to their facts strait! However, I am giving this school one star because of the lack of principal leadership. In my experience, she and the teachers fail to take action until it is to late. Two teachers left after last year. Coincidentlly, that was the same year that the new principal took office. I know why one teacher left and it does not reflect well on the administration.

Whoever wrote that last review complaining about recess needs to get their facts straight or at least ask the teacher/principal to clarify before posting inaccurate information on this site. Students are given at least 2 recesses a day...one around lunch time and another one during the day depending on the schedule. That's a lot more than 15 minutes. And if that is the only reason you would give a school 1 star, then you may need to re-evaluate your priorities.
