We have had 3 kids go through Sandymount and they all loved it. Great environment, caring and interactive teachers, and the kids actually enjoyed being in school.

They don't teach proper hand washing nor encourage it before lunch.

There is something special about Sandymount. This Thanksgiving while my son (4th grade) was saying grace, he said, "I'm thankful for good food and a good school". That about sums it up...

I've only had great experiences. The school has a lot of activities for the entire family. The PTA is fantastic at raising money for the school and keeps the fundraisers fun, interesting and varied. My son's teacher have been engaging, helpful and my son finds them very approachable. Mr. Laughlin ("Mr. L") left after the school year to another school closer to home (PA). He will be missed! Ms. Polhaus was great in helping my son understand that 1 bad test score doesn't define him. Her words and guidance restored his confidence. Mrs. Dietzel (2nd grade) welcomed my son mid-year and helped him transition with no concern at all.

Excellent community school, most supportive and active PTA I have ever seen. Every student gets a book from the PTA on their birthday---did that happen at your school when you were growing up?

All three of my children have attended Sandymount Elementary. I currently have two children there and the teachers and staff are amazing! I love that the teachers that taught my oldest child will teach or have already taught my other two children. I am glad the teachers stay a long time and consider Sandymount their home. I also volunteer at Sandymount at least once a week so I witness the daily "goings on". I see a lot of consistency across the board both academically and with the current administration. I can see where the front office staff may be perceived as surly but front entrance procedures have changed a lot over the past few years. It is their job to keep our kids safe and to make sure that everyone that enters that building has the proper credentials and is supposed to be there. Their job is not an easy one and I'm glad that they do it well. Once you get to know them and they get to know you, they are very pleasant. I am a very proud parent to some wonderful Sandymount students!

My child has been attending Sandymount for two years. After Kindergarten, I really hoped they would flourish with a teacher who was more compassionate and patient; but to no avail. The front office is less than friendly, they won't even look at you when you walk in. The PTA isn't very welcoming either. You would think a group as desired for membership as the PTA, they would be welcoming in their meetings - not "cliquey" and seeming so annoyed at their "duty". The Principal was present, and never once introduced herself or talked. After dealing with a transportation issue, the Principal did take care of the situation, however, it was very robotic like. When I was in school, my teachers were fun, engaging, and always friendly. I know everyone is different and has different tactics, but you are teaching elementary school kids - Be Happy! Engage them! Feed into their imagination! I am really discouraged and hope their elementary experience is the great memories I remember!

Sandymount Elementary is a great school with friendly and approachable staff and administration. There is a definite open-door policy for parents, who are always encouraged to participate in their child's education by visiting, volunteering in class, attending class trips, or taking part in an extra-curricular activity. My son loves school and never complains about "having to go to school." He is encouraged and treated with respect by the staff. It is a wonderful environment!

Two of my 3 children attended Sandymount Elementary prior to our moving to PA. The shift affirmed what I thankfully knew while we attended Sandymount: they are a Blue Ribbon school for a reason. Such designation is not given lightly or without merit and hard work. If you have the good fortune and opportunity to have your children attend SES, embrace it. You will not be sorry. It is a gift and a golden nugget in an educational system that still has more diamonds in the rough than polished stones.

I marked "other" because I am not a parent, teacher, or current student, rather, I am a Sandymount alumni. Sandymount was the only elementary school I have ever attended, so I cannot adequately compare it to other public schools in the area. I can, however, give a comprehensive review of my firsthand experience. The education was decent/average. I think, if anywhere, the reading/writing department could use some improvements. This school does not teach enough grammar or vocabulary lessons. When I went into middle school, our teachers threw a lot of grammar and vocabulary tests at us, and it was a tad overwhelming. However, being a quick learner and having a foundation of both grammar and vocabulary provided by my parents, I was able to handle it. Other Sandymount students, however, were not as fortunate. Some teachers are compassionate and patient, others, not so much. There is also a lot of favoritism.

SInce there wasent a slot for grandparent, I put down parent, as I am by circumstance privliged to serve as 'Daddy' to my beautiful grandson. As an older man with three grown children of my own, I have seen and been in a lot of schools. Most of them talked a good game about caring about their students. In this school you dont have to look far to see that everyone on the staff is dedicated to providing an incredible learning experience for the children. The kids work is always up on the walls, sunshine beams into the rooms, and the teachers are incredible. They keep these kids wanting to learn. This school isnt a 10 out of 10, its a fifteen out of ten. If it isnt a ten, then there isnt a ten, period.
