I waited for a couple of years before writing a review so I could really get a feel for the school and community. Bottom line we are so thankful for Pine Spring. The principal and vice principals are amazing, engaged and supportive. My daughter has had 3 years of great teachers, and has made a sweet little friend group. The PTA works hard to plan fun events, and create relationships between staff and families, as well as between students’ families. We had the chance to send our daughter to another school for level 4 Advance Academics, and we chose to stay at Pine Spring for their level 4 AAP. (And so did many other families.) Pine Spring is a small, lovely community based school and I highly recommend sending your children here!

Pine Spring is a hidden gem! We absolutely love the school and the community and my child is thriving there. The teachers are amazing and the principal is one of the best in the county. Before you make a decision, I highly recommend reaching out the PTA or a neighbor to ask about their experience. I almost guarantee you will hear only good things!

I love Pine Spring. From the custodians up to the Principal and all between, this is a special place. If you are considering Pine Spring, I recommend reaching out to the PTA or to the staff or parents to get a feel for this very special community. Ask about Bridge to Kindergarten, a free summertime program for rising Kindergarteners, go play on the playground after hours or the weekend to meet other satisfied parents. You will find out that Pine Spring is a wonderful school tucked away in a little neighborhood. I am completely delighted with my child’s experience there.

Front office is very involved with the students and as for the teacher they have been fantastic too. Lots of feedback on how my son is progressing and even gave areas to focus on during the summer break.

Most of the staff is incompetent, the rest is questionable. Social workers are lazy and certainly couldn't get a job at a real school. My son has been there for 5 years. His needs aren't met, and no one wants to make the effort to see that they are met. If you can afford to move to a better school district, they you should. It's worth it.

The low rating is so wrong! The school is a caring, educational community of persons from around the world. PSES embraces the many cultures that attend the school and all the students benefit as a result of the inclusion. The teachers are AMAZING. Most are long-time veterans who love, love, love their school and go above-and-beyond for "their kids." I've had nothing but wonderful experiences here, and I'm grateful that my children go to school here. The PTA is small but mighty with lots of events throughout the year that benefit the entirety of the student body. Children are taught to be respectful, and that value shines in everything that PSES does.

How can you give a bad grade to this wonderful school with amazing staff and teachers? Probably because parents expect too much. I've never seen any problems with this school. Principal Peri is a very funny and the kind person! He makes sure students and teachers are enjoying learning and make every school events fun. Also giving parents great tips on how to become a better teacher to our children. I have never had any teachers I had problem with. They are all nice and know what each student needs. Thanks to them, my son loves to learn math and other countries (thanks to the cultural diversity at this school!)

To all the reviewer, did you see the English and Math score? How it is going down in recent years? Few of the teacher neglect the parents due their ethnicity. The principal is scared of veteran teachers. The office staff's are efficient. The nurse is clueless. I'm scared of the security standards of the school - back door open etc. So, here is the answer to my first question, "Yes I am afraid, my kid will be treated differently; if I open my mouth on the PTA". Good bless!!!

4 stars is so completely wrong, I would at least give Pine Spring a 9. I went there from k to 6th grade and I have nothing but good memories of that place. The staff is very dedicated, and its a great environment for kids to learn at. The afterschool program is great as well.

Wow, I just can't believe the "4" rating that Greatschools gives Pine Spring! Just 2 years ago it was a "7" and things have only improved there and in the surrounding communities. What did change was a tougher state-wide math test, and across the board every VA elementary school will appear to have worsened in Math because of the new criteria. The teachers at this school are awesome, and the PTA holds many fun activities for the kids throughout the year. The SACC program is enriching and there are several before and after school activities for the kids. The school building itself is clean and in very good repair, and a place of learning in which the kids can be proud. The school lunches are definitely above average, nutrition-wise, and the new Principal, Mr. Peri, has met and exceeded the high expectations of the parents. I really urge Greatschools to look deeper than just the one-year decline in the Math scores due to the tougher state criteria.

I've had 3 children go through this school, so I've been a parent here since 1999. I have been extremely pleased by so many hard working teachers, unbelievable principals, and just an all-around wonderful school climate and community. The pta puts on a lot of really nice events, including my favorite - International Night, which really showcases what a rich and diverse community attends Pine Spring. My oldest is at TJ now and I know he was very well prepared at Pine Spring.
