Do not go to this school, I had the worst experience at Haven for 3 years since 2020. The teachers here are really friendly there, it's just that the amount of learning here is below average. The teachers here do not give out homework anymore like they used to, which is good, but without it, we are not learning as much as we used to. Most of my teachers were helpful with providing learning materials to individualized students, while some others weren't. In addition, the teams were divided into 4 basketball teams, and some of the teams had teachers who understood the curriculum, while others didn't, so I think because of the team I was put in, most of my friends in my class and I were lacking from the curriculum. Also, we had a hard time getting along with the 8th assistant principal. I always see her in the hallway taking phones and being rude and arrogant to students. I also signed up to be a student ambassador, and she always picks the same kids in my class to give a tour, which I believe she had so much favoritism towards her ambassadors. Volunteering for student ambassadors is a great opportunity, but I don't recommend it just because there's so much favoritism in the group. I believe there were some changes being made with the school, but I highly recommend looking into other schools than this, because this school stressed me out, and made my life so miserable

You will encounter some unpolite staff. There is a few good ones but the bad ones sour your whole experience. I was previously a student and admin has gotten worse over the years.

This school was the worst 3 years of my life. The only thing I looked forward to was graduating. I was lucky with my teachers and I got experienced teachers who cared about their students, however, the teachers were divided into "teams" so I was on the team with the good teachers while the rest of my class was given teachers who didn't understand the curriculum. Additionally, the principal of the 8th grade was one of the worst people I've ever met. She didn't care at all about the students and even told my friend that she would do anything in her power to stop her from graduating. The only time I ever saw her was when she was taking phones from students during lunch and holding assemblies where nothing productive ever happened. If you have the resources to send your child elsewhere I would highly recommend it because this place made me miserable and I hope I never have to go there again.

My child has been thriving socially and educationally at Haven Middle School. Its a collaborative learning environment with parents, offers a variety of learning experiences and embarrasses individuality and creative expression while giving the students the tools they need academically for high-school and beyond.

This school has a large student population, but a community feel. This school feeds from schools that perform well in addition to those that struggle so there is a mix of student readiness. The district is implementing programs to increase success and social issue awareness. Great sports program and student support. Parent engagement is high

My son loves this school. He is engaged and challenged. Could it be better overall? Yes, of course. But mainly it is a close community with teachers who are truly committed to the growth of their students. We have had a very positive experience.

My son transferred to Haven in Grade 7. He came from a small private school so this was quite an adjustment for him. So far, he absolutely loves his teachers and is getting to know some of the other students. It does not seem to be as academically challenging as his private school, but that just may be the classes he is taking (we registered him and signed him up for classes in one day, so they did not get to see MAP scores, etc.) He is looking forward to participating in Haven Help Us in the Spring. I enjoy it because it is a public school and District 65 works to ensure that all the students have equal access to opportunities (not just those whose parents give the most money, as is often the case in private schools).

This is my sons first year. I have two major complaints, about this school. Since the begining of the school year, I have had a very hard time, in the "Parent to Staff" relations department. Often, teachers/staff do not inform parents, that their child is having problems, until too late. I have also found it difficult, with communicating successfully, with the principle. Plus, the chain of command is choppy. There's a huge gap in communication between staff and parents. I find that, if you do not persistantly ask about your childs progress, then you will never know. Pop up visits to the school are highly recommend. Secondly, I believe the school should spend more time, with helping students to properly intergrate and adjust socially. There are various problems with bullying, and many students stay segregated into groups, from their home schools. Problems like these have become a major issue for my child. He feels the environment is not a possitive or encouraging. Out of concern, that his grades may start to suffer; I am now looking at another school, for my son.

It seems like a lot of the ratings for this school are out-of-date. Haven seems to have been through some rough times a few years ago, but it has definitely turned a corner. My son, who is in 7th grade, has had wonderful teachers. The principal seems extremely competent and on top of things. The only problem is the fact that the school is currently over-subscribed and that this problem will get worse in the next few years because of lack of funds by district 65.
