This is a fantastic high school. The academics are superior. The students are diverse and well rounded. The curriculum is rigorous. U-46 is a fantastic school district.

This school really supported my daughter who went on to a top Illinois college and my middle daughter who is a junior. The teacher’s care, sports and clubs are numerous and if student’s need support they get it! Go Maroons!

Very good school, I am a u46 graduate and now working in u46 and all I can say is that my old high school gave me the necessary skills to pursue my degree. At elgin you can find so much to do, so many clubs and different classes. The school is very diverse and their academy is one of the best. The school holds flea markets and concession stands as well as charity work to raise money for the school and the community. What I liked about the school was how diverse it was and the variety of options for students they offered, they also gave a great special ed program. The school is safe as it has a strict security office and ID office. I highly recommended this school! Go Maroons!

The teachers at the school often bully the kids. My student wasn't ready for college after 4 years and has to go to a junior college. The challenge is that so many kids are behind that the teachers have to spend time with those students, which drags everyone else down. The leadership is horrible. The newer principle is more interested in checking id's of students rather than getting her teachers to step up the education she's providing to the students. She desperately needs to be replaced. You can clearly see, this whole school needs an overall regarding education. I think the teachers are ok but the leadership isn't driving them to improve these marks. The school is an at risk school. The "maroon pride" is very prevalent and past students often come back and attend athletic games to support the current students. I would never recommend any college-bound students attend this school. Go to St Edward's or try and get into the academy at South Elgin high school (a much better school).

This schools has an unfair reputation. Its gifted academy is first class and thoroughly prepares students for college. The rating should be much higher than a 3. It really shows me that this site doesn’t really do its homework.

I've been around all the U-46 schools in the district. Elgin is an excellent school & there is a lot of maroon pride. South Elgin makes you wanna to drop out. It's not diverse. Larkin, Streamwood & Bartlett is drama filled but also diverse.
