This school does a lot of great things with limited resources. The teachers are dedicated and knowledgeable as is the current administrative staff and school board. The school has been a leader in a number of areas including its Early Learning Center, literacy efforts, and a number of other programs to promote student success. I open enroll my children to Elcho because of the small class sizes and individualized attention they receive.

Elcho is a Reading First school. I have some philosophical differences with that program. I came to the conclusion, the learning methods used was not compatible with our child. I believe Reading First might be a great program for most students but not all. Teachers were not helpful in providing material to help our child excel. In my opinion they were more interested in quickly placing a label on our kids to obtain more government subsidies. Its sad because there are a lot of good dedicated people there who gave a lot of time to the community and the kids. Our kids are somehow meeting benchmarks 2 grades ahead in a neighboring district charter school. Elcho they were 2 grades behind.
