For the most part all the teachers are great. But the principal is another story. She is a horrible principal. She does not try to resolve any conflicts/situations or even care. She doesn't interact with the kids and is not approachable. She's just not involved at all. All she does is sit in her office and gossips about the families and situations. You can definitely tell she's just there for the pay check. It Has potential to be a great school if they hired a principal who actually cares about her job and takes pride in what she does.

We love love LOVE Eagle River Elementary! Some of the reviews on here are a bit confusing to me because my Kindergartener thinks the Librarian Mrs. Daw (?) is wonderful. The new principal is amazing and I truly can't speak highly enough of Dr. Long. If you can manage to get your child in the optional program you will be in for an exciting and well rounded school experience.

I give this school 3 stars because the children are wonderful and kind hearted. I haven't met all of the teaching staff, but the ones I have met, I wish I hadn't. Everyone's review of the principal is correct. She should not be around children, ever. She has a major attitude problem, is very unapproachable, and horrible at listening and dealing with conflict resolution. The teacher my child had was very emotionally abusive. She humiliates children, and verbally abused my child. She had no patience for children either, especially children with special needs or requirements. And when reported, the principal did nothing about it. If you have the option, DO NOT send your child to this school!

Overall this is a good school. I agree with the parent who was critical of the librarian. While I like her personally, both of my boys are scared of her. One of my children has special needs and was served well until reaching third grade. His third grade teacher was dismissive and ignored him. She would deliberately not respond to him, referring him to the untrained TA to answer his questions. She repeatedly said inappropriate and demeaning things to him and when confronted, the principal did nothing. Children on the spectrum would be better served at another school for grades 3 through 6.

This school had the highest testing scores of the schools in Anchorage the year that my children went to it. My neighbor bought her house based on the school it was zoned for.

I have had my children in this school for the last 5 years. This is a wonderful school and my children have thrived. My only complaint is the principle and the librarian. Neither of them should be around small children. The librarian is just plain mean! The principle is so unpredictable. One day she is very nice and the next she is talking down to everyone. She is not approachable and makes me feel uncomfortable.

I have had 3 children in this school and am so pleased as a parent. The teaching staff is exceptional for their neighborhood program and their optional program. Our family has considered leaving state, but this school is one of the staple reasons for us staying put. Education is so important and this school embraces it with both hands, they recognize different learning styles and embrace community and life skills.

I'm the mom of an ESL student, and rate this as an absolutely outstanding school. The work is appropriate, the teachers I met are both talented and outstanding, the principal is wonderful, and the staff goes the extra mile for the students.
