One thing I don't understand about this school is why is it important for a child to tuck his shirt in his pants what does that have to do with education.They are children let them grow they are not in the military yet they are there to learn not to worry about weather they are going to get in trouble cause the shirt is not tucked in its the only elem school I know that does this.Rate this school BAD.

There is no care in teaching the student but just so they can pass the "big" test. After the "big" test, there is no teaching just play work until the end of school. I would like to see my child taught not for the "big" test but taught for the sake of teaching. Teachers unresponsive. Principal is really not worth the title she has. This school population is mostly black and no one really cares if it is a top notch school.

My daughter just started this school and I hate it. My daughter never brings homework for math, reading or English. I have never seen a school that does not give out homework. I just moved and this district and where I came from students have homework everyday, but Friday. How do the parents know what is expected of their child if he or she never brings home work to do. The math teacher tells the students he does not care if they learn or not because he is getting paid one way or the other. That is a terrible thing to tell a child. I am running from this district as soon as I can. I feel sorry for these students. no wonder only 60 percent passed the standardized math test with a math teacher like this, I am not surprise. Math is repetitious, the more you do it the better you get. Student should have math homework, daily. This is sad and I feel sorry for these students because the parents have no clue to what it takes for their child to succeed in school as well as life.

I have now left the school after trying to get a conference for months ..I have never seen this many incompetent people in one group. I dont know how they accomplished it. This school puts everything on the parent and child. They do not take responsibility. The children are not allowed to talk during lunch while this music plays for 15 min increments. I stood in the office with a crazy face and broke down to some lady that these children are not to be silenced because they dont feel like hearing loud noises. THEY ARE KIDS! My son learned nothing at this school. He failed in his classes simply because they do not know how to preaent curriculum. This is not a lack of parenting or interest but a lack of good organization, trust, pride and commitment. Sloppy is the best word. I contacted 4 people at this school by email telephone and in person. Still no call back. Who does that?

This school is located in the lowest socioeconomic and highest crime area in the district. I am a teacher at Burnett and am happy to say I am about to start my 5th year teaching at this school. When I first started at the school the behavior issues were exhausting but with new administration and proactive behavior management plans, we have made great improvement. The new administration also improved teacher effectiveness through professional learning and expert guidance and support which has lead to exciting increases in student academic achievement. Whenever there is an issue with behavior or academics, any student, teacher or parent at our school knows she/he has a support team ready to help. The staff at Burnett wants to make a difference in the lives of their students and their community, starting with a great education of intelligence plus character.

This school is a title I school located in a low socioeconomic area and it seems that student behavior is usually poor in schools that are located in these neighborhoods. I have been a substitute there many times and witnessed very good teaching while there. The teachers do have a caring spirit, but while there are students who do act appropriately, there are A LOT who DO NOT ! Many of these students do not listen, talk while the teacher is talking, lack respect for adults in authority, and disrupt instruction. It is quite difficult teaching students who are disruptive and in my opinion that is a HOME issue and not a school issue. parents need to do their job at home and quit blaming other people for their problems. Get involved at home first as well as your childs school so you can help fix the problems you see.

My son has attended this school since the 2008-2009 year. I have loved the teachers and the communication for all the years he has been there except one but that doesn't reflect poorly on the school, I just wasn't excited about that one particular teacher. We have had some problems with bullying but the school has been handling it great with open communication, easy confidential and immediate reporting for my child, and vigilance. You are likely to find bullying in any school but I have to give this school props in the way they're handling it. Also, this school and I worked together to improve my son's academics. He went from being far behind grade level reading in his early years to being in the PC program this year and academically excelling.
