This is a sorry excuse for an elementary school.I can say without a doubt that they do not establish a safe, or nurturing environment.The teachers are least bothered with the seriously substandard quality of language. Cursing, or sexual comments are not addressed with students at all! Their approach to such issues involve asking the students on the receiving end to cope with it rather than establish corrective actions. Let me spare you from the poor quality education. Teachers do not spend time needed to help children understand concepts. It is their way of establishing extra income through tutoring. Children feel threatened to ask questions. It’s heart breaking to see how emotional my child gets when we wrap up the weekend and get ready for Monday. He counts down to Friday and dreads this entire school experience.

I just moved into this area for the schools and I can say that I am not disappointed. Yes I have had a few incidents with my child here and there but that’s my sons fault. My son seems to be interested in learning and learning lots of valuable things they don’t hand out to much homework but they do handout some. I feel that this is a safe learning environment for my children and I think you would to

We recently moved to the neighborhood and were thrilled to be in the Half Hollow Hills East district. This school has us seriously questioning that decision almost everyday. We have raised multiple concerns with the faculty and leadership (Principal/Asst. Principal of the school with the quality of education and what is deemed socially acceptable behaviors however, the follow through is lack luster at best. The teachers do not maintain a motivating or nurturing environment. One teacher actually stated that she is there only to execute what the district asks of her. They do not provide the attention needed for each child because they are not vested in their development, only "doing a job". Children are handed assignments without proper direction, tests are graded with seriously inferior and discouraging feedback. Students are allowed to use foul language toward other minor female students, share obscene gestures and the teachers could not be bothered; teachers "put on a movie" and leave the children to their own devices without supervision during lunch time. This is the first educational institution where asking questions is discouraged. If you raise concerns as such to the leadership, your children are treated in an almost retaliatory manner. I am sincerely appalled as a parent of students in this school of the quality of the educational atmosphere. The children arrive at home at the end of a school day psychologically drained and defeated. Truly unfortunate.

We moved to this neighborhood in order to attend Paumanok because we heard so many great things. My daughter has a vision impairment and we wanted her to attend an elementary school that would set her up for success. The principal and every teacher gave her everything she needs and more. I have friends in other school districts whose children have a similar impairment and Paumanok and HHH in general provided the most personalized services by far. I never had to fight for what my child needs and the principal made us feel so welcome, even meeting with us before school started. My daughter is now a high school junior and has thrived here every step of the way.

This is not a good school..your child won't get a good quality of education or quality of school life.Small minded principals and staffs who is lack of heart and one sided.,probably far from angel.All they focus is their success not children's. Test result is 8 but I would rate this school 3 for quality and professionally..

I have to agree with the reviewer that wrote about the PTA. The PTA had one meeting in the evening last year and essentially that was to collect the annual membership fees. Every meeting after that was held in the mornings at 9:30. It appears to be like that for all the schools in the Half Hollow District. The same people are involved every year, and you only hear from them when they need money or fund raising. While I admire parents who make the sacrifice to stay home, they are not respecting of working parents and single mothers who MUST work. As for new students and parents socialization, it's extremely clingy. The education and teachers involvement iare like none other. I will rate involvement a 10. I can't rate the PTA here, unfortunately because it would be unfair to the school.
