I am a former student at detoit prep, and my experience was bad most of the time. My time at detoit prep was not very good because we have expedition instead of geography, history, world history etc. The reason why expedition is worse than having one of these is because the students will not be able to learn as much as they can. An example of this is, for 2 months we will study about rocks then we will go over to black history and just be done with science for the rest of the year. Another way students are not being their best is because there are so many unnecessary things such as, multiple recesses in one day, morning crew and closing crew, and habits of character. I understand how the school uses habits of character to try and get kids to be better but the sixth and seventh graders and maybe the fifth graders too all hated them and didn’t care about them besides for a very small amount of people. Multiple recesses, morning crew and closing crew are bad because they take so much time out of the day leaving less time for them to be able to do history, science, English, and maybe an elective all in one day instead of over a year, at my current school I have learned more in one semester than I have learned for 7 years at Detroit prep. The teachers seem to really love their jobs but, they can’t manage their class a lot of the time and the material that we get does not help at all.

The overall experience was just ok. The goal behind this school missed the mark. Im all for learning character traits such as leadership, integrity, showing kindness but it was too much fluff. You can only communicate with teachers through a app or in person, you can't access schoolwork which shows what your child is doing until the end of the card marking during parent/teacher conferences. Nothing your child does comes home. No completed work with grades, no art work, projects...nothing until the end of 8th grade! Yes, 8th grade. My child was only in the 3rd grade. The extracurricular programs were great, social events(that were actually disclosed to us) were good and the teachers were nice. I just felt it wasn't a good fit for my child and his education

We've loved our experience at Detroit Prep. Our child has thrived and grown in the EL Education curriculum, and under the caring, thoughtful instruction of DP educators. We look forward to several years in this school

I would not send my kids to this school ever again. Actually, they were never supposed to attend this school, but we could not get into the school we wanted at the time.
