Academics and the teachers here are great. There are a LOT of offerings (even Mandarin). My daughter took several honors/ AP classes, and got free college credit from Danville Area Community College for English, without even having to pay for/take the AP exam. And the other reviewer apparently is unaware of the numerous regional, sectional, and state sports championships won in the last five years. They have an Archery team which won state for High school and qualified for Nationals the last few years. My daughter was in a play and/or musical each of her four years in high school. They have band and choir opportunities, and the art teacher also teaches at the local college. We moved here from another state as she began high school, and right away felt welcomed and included.

If you want to be around a well-rounded group of students who really care about academics, I would definitely recommend this school. Teachers are always helpful and bullying is minimal. If there is ever a problem with bullying, the principal and staff are always quick to help. There are several down sides, one of them being the emphasis on sports despite the fact that the teams are actually terrible. Other extracurriculars are basically nonexistent or mediocre. So if you're an artsy type of person DON'T GO HERE. There aren't many classes to choose from either. There are very limited honors and AP classes, and it is rare that any student will pass the AP exam which shows a flaw in teaching style. If you're coming to Schlarman from public school or any other school that is not St. Pauls, St. Mary's or Holy Family, BE PREPARED. The students are extremely cliquish and almost impossible to make friends with. All in all, there's not much variety or excitement to this school, so if you want a really good high school/social experience I would not recommend going here.
