Collaborating with parents is left to administration. Teachers are discouraged from sharing real information. Principal Falar would rather see kids sit doing nothing, than teachers try. She takes on no problems to avoid causing ripples with district expectations. Her days are spent behind glass, in her office, doing the work she doesn’t want to overflow into her personal life. Students run past her laughing, when she’s in the quad of the campusstanding around making zero connections. She dresses up well, that’s the most notable about the principal.

Great school. The school is why we moved to Coronado and we haven't been disappointed! Teachers go out of their way to help students and the content of academics is challenging. Good sports and other club activities. Worth the cost of living in Coronado just to get into this school.

Overall, this school is very good. There are small problems such as strange grading systems and not punishing bullies occasionally, but the teaching is incredible. As a student, I believe that I have learned a lot here, and whenever I get into academic trouble the teachers are always there to help me.

CMS on the surface seems like a great school. This year (2014-15) they officially rolled out Common Core Math and in the words of their own staff are " struggling with curriculum and how to teach it". Technology carts for the kids in use (required in Common Core curriculum) but only 18 tablets for each class of 34+ kids ! Heavy reliance on kids bringing their own laptop/ipad/tablet, along with a warning that if they forget their own device there is no guarantee that a school device will be available for them ! Constant reminders of the effects of recent budget cuts on the school/district in weekly emails. Large class sizes, upwards of 34 in every class. Inconsistent teaching skills, especially in Math. Homework and communication websites are in use that most teachers make full use of with a wealth of communication/helpful info but some teachers refuse to use it all - which is frustrating for students and parents alike. Band/choir are a plus, along with PE daily. If you are considering this school, ask lots of question and do your own research before registering ! The teachers who are computer confident & savvy are the teachers you want your kids to have !

Coronado Middle School is community based and academically challenging. It has well educated teachers that care about their students education. Any family would feel lucky to have their kids attend CMS.

Moved to the area this summer. (Navy family). Admin/office at CMS are nice. School has very little offered outside of the 3 Rs. Researched from Oct-May before deciding where to live based on schools and commute. We got the commute right. Just look at CUSD website for current financial crisis and check for those electives too. They only have Art and Spanish to offer new students, maybe avail spot in band and drama. The high interest electives, technology or broadcast, were closed. Missing many others in-demand newer electives, Robitics and Engineering. Clubs listed never started ( Science, Creative Writing, Chess, Art, History) We wanted those. Fund cuts for past several years pushed sports outside to "islander sports", nonprofit, but canceled fall baseball. Local kids (in gen) are not nice, friendly, or helpful. If you here "some kids buy lunches for friends and how sweet is that?", it is more likely they are trying to buy a nicer relationship. I wish we found what we read but not the case. 3 stars bc the cafeteria is great, some teachers and librarian are great, but others are below ave(from our experience). If I was told the truth, I could have made better choices for my family.

Coronado middle is a great school. They have excellent teachers and a great staff. I was new to the school and they made me feel very welcome. They have an excellent selection of electives. And their performing arts program is phenomenal. They also have an awesome cafeteria. :)

Fantastice school! We have two that have moved up to HS and two in the middle school. The teachers are really great withthe classes not being too large. The school administration are wonderful caring people who take an intereest in the children and really try to make the kids be accountable. the Vice Principle, Miss Melina, is especially talented withthe kids! She has a loving but firm apprpaoch and dosen't tolerate disrespect or inappropriate behavior. Acedemics are good, although I get frustrated with the various "on-line" approached to see how the kids are doing....find one and have all the teachers use the same system ( I believe that this coming year they are doing that)! I feel like we are getting close to a private education in a public school!
