One of the reviews here that calls SRS 'MORE OF A CHILD CARE CENTER,,,NICE CAMPUS BUT POOR ACADEMICS' is the truth but the 1 star was too hard. Its a really good child care center, not a good school. After 6 years, we withdrew our children last spring (2023) and after only 1 month at their new public schools, my partner and I are wishing we withdrew them years ago, after pre-K.The GOOD--the child care center, specially the pre-K program has great teachers who give a good base for kids to go into K ready to learn-the campus is amazing, I've never seen anything like it-small class sizes. Advisory groups are 12to16-vacation camp included in the cost of tuitionThe BAD--academics are erratic, its like none of the faculty know what the others are doing-no support for SEN, learning needs and such. I don't think they know what an IEP is!-apart from golf and nordic, there's no athletics save a couple weeks of soccer and running. My partner can't swim so he was sold on the promise of swim classes, but they don't even use the swimming pools.-big discipline problems, kids are sent to the principal every day when theyre just being kids, meanwhile they had a bullying problem for forever and the administration is indifferent to it

I have three children at Shaker Road School and I have been impressed with the experience each of them have had. My children go to school each day knowing that their teachers care about them and I know that they are receiving an excellent education. I have found the curriculum to be appropriate and challenging, but more importantly, I have found that the teachers and administrators are willing to offer more challenge when my kiddos need it and offer support when they are struggling with other concepts. SRS is a place that truly pays attention to what each child needs and responds appropriately.

My child thrived at Shaker Road School. She was offered curriculum past her grade level to keep her challenged and excelled in every area (academics, sports and throughout the school community). I could not be happier for her experience at SRS.

Full disclosure: I'm a parent and a teacher here. My children are challenged by a dedicated staff of well-trained teachers who clearly love their jobs and the place where they teach. The school lives out its mission of teaching the whole child through strong academics and excellent extra-curriculars. My eldest plays 3 instruments, is involved in 3 sports, and does drama and robotics, all through the school! What other school makes time for all that plus academics?

I can't wait to send my child here next year. The new infant/toddler program is fantastic and I know my child will be challenged all the way through 8th grade.

We have three very different children all enrolled at Shaker. All three have had an excellent experience. The teachers are kind and work hard to provide a caring and nurturing environment for each child. Our children are also very involved with sports and they have learned how to manage a school and work balance. There is a very healthy outdoor program as well as the opportunity for children to progress more rapidly through course work if they are accomplished. The class size speaks volumes, you just can't get this ratio elsewhere. I want my child to have a wonderful school experience, to be happy and well rounded. Shaker has been able to provide this balance. There is a cost but it is less than other comparable day schools. Our eldest was accepted to a prestigious high school recently, we couldn't be happier for our sons accomplishments and also life balance. We looked at a lot of programs and are very pleased with our choice.

This school is a big disappointment, more of a child care center than a school. The curriculum is very weak, and the teachers are average at best. We left the school and my children are challenged more in the public school system. Nice campus but poor academics. Don't be fooled.

Beautiful campus. Not the best environment, I was also talked down to regarding their curriculum.

As an educator, I value my child's education. It is a priority so we were willing to pay the heafty tuition. My husband and I both have master's degrees. We have tried to ask questions around curriculum and we are talked down to. We want to support our child, but we are not treated as a partner in education. Disappointed.

So this is an update on my previous review (below). When I was in 6th grade, it was hard transferring to a school with high standards for academic excellence and small classes. I'm now going into 8th grade at Shaker and it's been a great experience so far. The teachers challenge me, and all of my classmates, with tough material while giving you help if you need it. I love my friends -- I know them better than anybody else in the world. Shaker's a wonderful school, and you're missing out on so many great opportunities if you don't go there.

As an educator in one of the top (1-3) public elementary schools in the state, I couldn't be more impressed by the staff and curriculum at the Shaker Road School. My son is only in Pre-K, but the curriculum is rigorous, yet age appropriate. In addition, my son has some special needs, and all staff have gone above and beyond to meet his social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs. My niece and nephew also attended (are attending ) and are leaps beyond the public school counterparts. Most of all, I am incredibly impressed with Shaker Roads focus on building the whole child.

My three children have been at Shaker Road School for 6 months and we are delighted to be here. We formerly had our them in a 10 ranked public school and were not impressed. We found the public school taught to the test and ignored our children's individual needs. Shaker looks at each child individually and works on their areas of weakness, while at the same time promoting their strengths. For our son (grade 1), his teacher has taken him under his wing, and intensively focused on reading. Our son is now reading at an advanced level and loves books. Our 2nd grade daughter who struggles with shyness has found an environment that is caring and supportive and now she feels safe to come out of her shell. Our preschooler also is in an environment where her teachers care about her while providing her with the valuable social tools needed in PK. We love the Shaker Road School, it's a wonderful place for children to grow and learn. We recommend it highly.
