Mandela Children's Learning Village is a place where students are transformed into scholars. They encourage children to use their critical thinking skills through a lens of embracing self-awareness, confidence, resilience, collaboration, and exploration. My son has developed a passion for learning and exploring all content areas with excitement. The teacher-to-student ratio is unique and allows for differentiated instruction to take place in the effort to advance student achievement. Lessons, projects, and extracurricular activities are student-centered and culturally relevant, which makes learning an enjoyable experience for all. My child enjoys attending MCLV as they are committed to positively progressing him year after year. We are pleased with the school and would recommend MCLV to anyone looking for a dedicated and supportive school family.

Great school! I wish we had found it sooner for my older children. What my son has learned and been exposed to in the last few years is amazing. He comes home eager to share what he has learned and challenges his older siblings to "pop quizzes" around the dinner table. They are often surprised by what he has learned at such a young age. In addition to the academic rigor, the cultural grounding has been invaluable. History and culture are weaved through everything, and the kids are instilled with a sense of pride and confidence in themselves. The school offers wonderful field trips and activities such as swimming, horseback riding and chess classes. This school has been well worth the investment!

This school was definitely one of the best experiences of my childhood. It made me enjoy going to school and by the time I got to public school I was way ahead of the other students. The teachers not only prepared us academically but also instilled many important values and lessons. I can say Mandela played a big part in shaping me into the person I am today

I have had three children receive an excellent educational foundation from Mandela Learning Village: one has earned her Ph.D., the other her BA in Business Administration, and the other has earned a AA degree and plans to attend a four year university this fall.

I attended Mandela for 8 years in the 1980's. As a teacher educator and educational researcher, I am often asked from where I draw my knowledge about child-centered education and culturally sustaining pedagogy and my devotion to improving parent engagement, and it started at this great institution. Mandela's educators attend to the needs of the entire child and seek to support each child to discover their highest heights. This is saying a lot in an era where educators who serve low income and other marginalized populations are being forced to provide a cookie-cutter education to children who need something completely different and MORE. Some question whether a school can be both rigorous and Afrikan-centric. The successes of Mandela's alumni provide evidence that this is indeed possible. From what I know we are all good people who are civic minded and family-oriented. We have gone on to be musicians, artists, nurses, doctors, lawyers, teachers, professors, home makers, computer scientists and many more careers. Mandela is also different because the parents are encouraged and expected to be involved in all facets of the school. I remember my mom helping with the school's budget and can recall our entire family cleaning classrooms on the weekends. Mandela seeks to improve the entire family. I cannot say enough great things about the institution. I just wish that more children were able to have the experience I had.

I am happy to write this review on my son's school. As an educator myself, I believe that your child benefits most from his or her education when you, as a parent, invest in it. I've always been my son's first teacher but I trust Mandela Children's Learnig Village to instill the same cultural pride, academic excellence and work ethic that I instill at home.Since his first day, Walimu and Ms. Evans made my son feel like family. The children are taught accountability. This is not the school to attend if you are not interested in participating as an active parent. Parents volunteer their time throughout the school year.Academically, I love the individualized approach that Ms. Evans takes with the children. Many are extremely bright and excel beyond their grade level. I am informed daily of his progress and also notified early of any challenges that my child may be facing academically or behavior-wise.My son loves the weekly excursions and daily activities that Ms. Evans plans for the children. Because of the small class size, there's a lot of opportunity for them to receive hands-on learning. They've exercised at the beach. They've gone on nature walks. They've done training camps. This keeps the students looking forward to coming to school.Environmentally, the school is situated in the older, ranch-style side of Compton. The kids see the horses trot down the street regularly. They have a play area, desks, electronics and a basketball court in the patio area. What I live must about the school is the curriculum that is African American centered. They learn about themselves year round. Much of the discussions are enriching and helping them to critically think about themselves and what roles they may play in society. All things considered, Mandela Children's Learning Village has been around for over 35 years so they must be doing something right. Many of the alumni return to in part some wisdom on the kids which is what a village does.I truly believe that Mandela School is the gem of Compton. I wish more people of color entrusted their own to teach our child. Slowly, the tide is turning but with institutions like Mandela it's nice to know that the option is a available in our own backyard.

This is a great school! Caring, experienced, and committed staff. They are stable and I have seen their students go on to succeed on the collegiate level and become responsible adults. They emphasize cultural values and the principles essential to the cultivation of good people. They have a well rounded approach to education and fully invest in each child. I recommend this school to friends and family.

I had the privilege of attending Mandela between the fourth and eighth grade. I can genuinely say that it was the best academic experience I have had thus far. Now, 10 years later I am still drawing from the knowledge and skills I gained at Mandela. I earned a B.A. from UCLA in 2013 and am now completing my first year at Rice University in the Sociology PhD program, and I have yet to come across teachers as nurturing and committed to all-around student development as the teachers at Mandela. I owe them majorly! Thank you so much for believing in me!

If you are looking for a school to help develop and refine your child, Mandela is the school for you. The classes are small and due to the size, there is a lot of one on one interaction with the students. The staff is caring and very attentive to the student's need. Unlike contemporary schools, Mandela implements a learning program to fit the child's need to ensure success in the classroom as well as in life.

I LOVE Winnie Mandela Children's Learning Village. Attending this institution i have gained a second family that has prepared me for life, college, and success. The Administration here focuses on the primary needs of each student individually, and provides excellent service in all subject matters. I learned to speak different languages, dance, draw, write, and so much more from the wonderful staff at Mandela. I am forever appreciative of the mark left on my life by this gracious institution.

Mandela Children's Learning Village of Compton California. I was the former School Assistant Administrator and now the returning School Assistant Administrator. I work behind the scenes for the most part. But what I can tell you is our teachers are very hands-on in every aspect of the school. Our school offers a very unique approach to each student's educational program. Therefore we educate them individually and in groups so no student feels pressure to perform above his or hers own ability. The last thing I love about Mandela Children's Learning Village is that we teach our children to love and have pride in themselves and never give up.

Mandela Children's Learning Village is a gem in the heart of Compton offering students and parents a rare learning and loving community of support, knowledge, and guidance towards success. As a product of this prime education, I have been blessed to enter into higher academia with a wealth of knowledge about collegiate level subjects that were embeded in me from middle school level at Mandela Children's Learning village. Children are priviledged to be developed in a small family like community with intensive curriculum to prepare them to be independent critical thinkers, high achievers, and life long scholars. It is my recommendation and hope that every child is granted the opportunity to have an education like the one I received at this school. As a Compton native I am proud to know that a full academic experience and education is offered to youth in an urban community where a quality education is lacking and necessary. Overall, my experience at Mandela gave me a life long family of peers and mentors and prepared me to be the best student and leader I can be.

As a Mandela alum and my son being a 2nd generation student the excellent standards and education has remained the same over the years and with the great individual time that is spent with every student allows your child to get the educayion that is needed to compete in todays society.
